always refreshing to see someone take it in stride when the favorite team loses, especially badly.

as a fan of an nfc west team NOT playing in san fran...I have to admit that playoff run the ravens had last year really left a bad taste in my mouth. they were such a bad team the second half of the regular season, and all the fluky things that happened in the postseason...id be very happy if they missed the playoffs all together this year.

I agree, he is the best qb in ravens history. but for some reason, being better than tony banks, kyle boller, trent dilfer and elvis grbac doesn't impress me much.

as for the best first 5 years ever thing, there is good reason for that. tom brady didn't start right away. neither did aaron Rodgers. or brett favre. or eli manning. or tony room. or steve young. that hasn't always been common to throw a rookie in there right away. I would bet, without looking it up, that both Rodgers and brady had more wins in the first 5 seasons AS A STARTER. they cany help that the team had qbs when they were brought in. also, flacco was, what, the 17th pick? he came to what was close to a playoff team already. rg3, luck, newton, rivers, eli, peyton, Bradford, aikman...did not have this luxury. it is hard to lead a bad football to wins by yourself. no qb that I have seen plays defensive back or returns kicks. hard to win postseason games when your teammates aren't up to par. joe has never had that problem, with lewis, reed, boldin and several others gone, I don't see them winning any playoff games this year.

I don't feel the need to explain how fluky the playoffs were, but I will go through the motions again.

1. ray lewis comes back in less than 10 weeks from an injury that nobody has EVER come back from to play in the same season the injury occurred. slightly sketchy. then the whole deer antler spray thing.

2. the broncos game. where to start? peyton making rookie decisions. the safety going for the pick on a prevent defense? how is he still on any nfl team?

3. Bernard pollard takes out another patriot key player. he has now ended a season for welker, brady, gronk and ridley. somethings up there.

4. cary Williams, the number 1 corner for Baltimore, made contact with an official in the super bowl during that little scuffle. that is an automatic ejection. yet he wasn't tossed. why? nobody has EVER addressed this.

5. last 49ers drive, crabtree was held. no flag, very obvious penalty.

6. the ravens held on the safety on that punt. no flags. would have been a 10 yard penalty on the kickoff, and the return woyld have POSSIBLY mattered.  very sad, one sided officiating in the critical moments of that game.

and the 49ers are my rival team. I do not like them.
