In light of the staff request for information on hostess bars, has anyone been to any in San Diego.
I didn't know there were any.
I've heard a rumor, there might be something similar to one in Kearny Mesa. Caters to mainly Asians. Heard it cost 70 bucks to get in the door and 45 to have a lady sit with you for like 30 minutes or an hour.
Not really sure where in KM it is, or if it really exists.
I only heard about it in a bar. Some patron was ticked because his favorite local bar had been bought out and this is what had become of it. Could just be a case of sour grapes too.
I have never been in a hostess bar. What exactly happens?
There are three in San Diego that I know of... cater mostly to Korean and Japanese people.
There's one next to Oh Bak Sa Restaurant behind Fun Bike Center (west of Convoy). I was there the other night. I had one large bottle of Hite and one cocktail and one tray of squid appetizer it equaled $49. The Japanese girl that sat with me said tip would cost $50 to $100.
The other two hostess bars I know of are High Ball and Jang Mi (Korean for Rose).
I heard the owner of several LA clubs was thinking about opening one here, catering to a wider clientele.... but who knows when and if it will happen.
The prices you guys are quoting are out of sight compared to what they are in LA, and appear restricted to asian women.
Of course, I think one deterrent to these places opening up here may be a combination of a strict municipal government and the fact that we are so clse to mesco.
I'm not aware of any in San Diego, but there are several in the Los Angeles and LA County. I peeked inside one called VIP, in the City of Industry. It shares the same parking lot as the Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen's club (which deserves it's own conversation thread here!). I didn't stick around to see what exactly goes on, as I had friends waiting for me inside the Spearmint Rhino.
