My wife are splitting and we have a very healthy flatcoat retriever. Great dog. Loves people (especially females). Looks like a golden retriever but is jet black. It kills me to lose him but this is life.

Feel for you.  I lucked out in that the former didn't want him. Since I consider him a family member more than just a pet, I wouldn't dare think of giving him up.  He's been my constant companion for the last 10 yrs.  Like your dog, he's a great dog and loves women.  Just wish I had more time to give him.

I know a couple who stayed together for their dog. I am not kidding!

My Lab is in very serious condition. He has cancer which has gone into his lungs. A couple times we thought we lost him, but he hangs on. I'm watching for his suffering, but when he get to his worse, he remarkably bounces back and wants to play ball. I'm going to enjoy every minute left with him I can.
