Hey folks,
Are there any publicaly traded companies where one could buy stocks in the adult entertainment industry. The porn industry is huge, and it seems that there has to be a way for investors to make money on the growth.  My broker said that it would not be a good investment since most institutional investors would not be willing to trade in companies that were involved in the industry and therefore there would not be the stock movement? ANyone out there have any experiences where they have purchased stocks that have done well??

The answer might be a surprise to many!  Think of how porn is distributed these days.

Metro is one of the answers because they own a chain of stores, Amazing Video, that they use to push their product & most other companies (Vivid, Wicked, VCA, Extreme Associates) either sign distribution deals with Metro or risk NOT having their product carried in Metro's stores.

As far as I know, the only publicly traded porn companies are:

PLA    Playboy Enterprises
PRVT   Private Media Group

I believe that you're correct in saying that those are the only two publicly traded companies.

Maybe AT&T?  I think they also own a large portion of the pay-per-view markets in hotels and such.

An internet company of some sort might be another, but I guess AOL and other ISPs don't really provide such content directly.

I considered investing in private but the price did not seem very compelling. Nonetheless, that company is up there IMO.

Invest in At&T...

AT&T broadband and their hotel ppv services are the largest single vendor of Adult entertainment... and it is a cash cow. I expect other telecoms are big too... much bigger than a dedicated adult company.

The money is in the distribution, not creation... actually the creative side of the adult industry has been pretty hammered in this economy, as well.

O.

So we have two "blue chip" companies in the porn industry.
