According to reports, it's quicker, cheaper, more efficient and accurate... Good news.  Can a Home HIV Test be too far behind?

Home test? I certainly hope not, can you just imagine how inaccurate that might be with false positives or negatives.

as always

You prick your finger (not finger your prick), blot the blood on a card and send it in.  You get a number so they don't know your name then you call up with the number and you get the results.

The URL is here: http://www.homeaccess.com/

The better tests can be done through AIM which has testing centers in most cities: http://aim-med.org/

It's not a bad idea to get a test done every quarter if you hobby a lot.  I am amazed at how infrequently most local providers get tests.

will 3 days do?  cuz i've been using the home-test kits they sell at CVS/Walgreens for years. i screen several times a year (depending on my risky behaviour). it costs roughly $50 and you get your results back anonymously by phone in a few days (they will even send you a written lab report if you want but since it's anonymous it's of no uses as "proof" for anyone but you)

bear in mind it's the HIV-1 Antibody test (ELISA) and *not* the PCR/RNA viral load test used by the industry (i do that one about once a year).  but it's still 99.9% accurate and is the same exact antibody test hospitals would use (short of the PCR test which here in NE costs about $250 in various commercial labs)

yesterday was World Aids Day (December 1st) ... good to keep somethings in mind and arm yourself with adequate defenses ... these days catching HIV may not be a death sentence anymore, but it ain't exactly a walk in the park living with HIV/AIDS

Thank you for that info. also it does not get reported to the MBI so there is no record of it on your file.

The FDA approval letter is here: http://www.fda.gov/cber/pmaltr/P010047L.htm

For now, this test is only available through clinical laboratories.
