The author posed the question that given the advantages of escorting vs. making porn videos, why didn't more pornstars escort? The answer as to why not was given inthe last paragraph, and was attributed to Mike South, who's a member here, and to be honest I'm a little surprised and offended it by it if indeed it did come from Mike...
Here's the last paragraph, in response to the question "why don'tmore pornstars escort"...

His characterization of the "hobbyist" is what's truly offends me,especially considering the morals and intelligence of the average porn stud, and the general disregard for talent by the male dominated porn industry as a whole. Hey, the recent HIV situation wasn't caused by a PSE meeting an infected fan... it was the result of T.T. Boy taking a crew down to Brazil to find new, and more importantly, CHEAP talent, even though the health conditions of sex- workers there were well known beforehand. Hell, John Stagliano became infected there what? Three years or four ago???
Within the porn industry, female talent are under constant pressure to work "condom-free"; those who chose not to find it harder to find work. Unless they're a major name and/or working for a major production company like Vivid or Wicked, bareback is the expected standard.
And what about the pro-am bukakke videos which Mike himself regularly shoots? I think when you're doing that kind of porn, it's pretty hypocritical to diss the average hobbyist.
On the other hand, while escorting the PSE is the one in total
control... SHE sets the guidelines, choosing who she sees and what she'll do, without a producer, director or an agent pressuring her to push the envelope. And while I won't say that bareback intercourse never happens between a PSE and a fan, ESPECIALLY without the fan providing a current HIV screening, I think it's very, very rare; I can only speak from my own experience, but in my 35+ encounters with PSEs, not only have I never had bare back full service, but it's never even been offered.
Porn is routinely shot in South America and Europe where there are no safety guidelines what-so-ever, all in the name of saving a few bucks. MONEY is what drives this industry, and if the guys who control it have a problem with a pornstar escorting, it's not due to any safety concerns - they've shown time and time again that they could care less about the safety of the talent. Hell, Marc Wallace is still working in the industry, which I think is a slap in the face to those women he infected - No, it's not about health safety; it's out of fear that when the girl sees how much money she can make escorting and how much less demanding it is, they'll realize that
they're being underpaid by the industry honchos who hold the pursestrings.
I've always respected Mike South amd enjoyed his work and the
occasional contributions he's made to this forum. So Mike, if you were misquoted or it wasn't you that made the statement, my apology, but if it was you, you should be ashamed of yourself. Examine your own industry's values before critisizing others.

THE STAR STATUS ALLLOWS THESE WOMEN TO RAISE THERE PRICES TO THE $1500 MARK and above, without the prestige of porn or tv, cable , ppv, video's , dvd's ect most of these women would be at the lower rates.
except TER allows providers another type of prestige either via performance review or looks and sometimes what she accomidate.

I think you're right on target with the money angle. The girls take control, do the escort thing, have fun and make money. Money that isn't going to the video companies.
Oh this can't be anything short of horrific (for an agent needing to pay for his Benz). After all, we clients are supposedly the dregs of society (as opposed to the video producers that sexed the girls for free as an 'audition'). Who are we to exploit these hapless naive girls (surely there's someone much more qualified)?
Maybe I'm off base here as I can only speak for myself (like anyone else here), but most of the PSEs I've met (in clubs and/or in private) are quick to say they're pissed that they get paid to do one scene for a film that then is part of 15 compilation videos without the girl getting a cent for the residuals.
At least with clients, the girl gets paid for her talents.
So what if the video companies have to go out 'over there' to find girls to do these gonzo films, pay them next to nothing and put them in 15 compilation videos? That's the nature of business. Some of the PSs show an entrepeneurial spirit in that they don't necessarily need the video companies for anything but publicity, and the video companies have to search for exploitable resources elsewhere. If someone wants to feel one way or another about safety, they are certainly entitled to their opinion.
