She was a 12 year veteran. I'm sure she had been trained along the way to handle a 9mm Beretta. She was not the first one killed. I think, had she been carrying, the death toll would have been much lower.

Well, the guy was carrying a shotgun too, so everybody needs to be able to outgun that.  A knockoff AK should be good enough for that, except that the criminals will get the AKs too, so you really need covering fire whenever you walk in the door.

You're asking the wrong question.  You should asking why someone someone with a history of mental illness was allowed to by a gun in violation of the Brady law?   Haven't heard yet whether the gun shop was to blame or if the shooter was included in the database to be prevented  from buying weapons.

Concealed carry laws are governed by state and local statutes not ferderal laws. If you care to blame my very own Governor GoBlowYerself and his oh so very liberal state legislature, then you'd be getting closer to the answer.

1st, there are no standards for mental illness.  It exists when a shrink says it does, and many shrinks are willing to diagnose people they have NEVER MET.

2nd, various medical privacy laws will get in the way.  Maybe they should.

The fact is that we've had maybe 5 big media shootings in 10 years.  They are MEDIA EVENTS, news precisely because they attract attention, not necessarily statistically significant.

Most involve people who had no prior records, and could never have been deterred, as they were willing to save the last rounds for themselves, or commit "suicide by police action".

All the ant-terrorist security shit is INCREDIBLY expensive in terms of lost time and effort.   If we're going to improve, we gotta know when to cut people loose, and not try to save *every* pathetic parasite.   Hawkings and polio crippled neurologists we save.  Gangbangers go to labor camps to be redeemed by labor - like they do in Virginia, except that private profit isn't justified when these assholes owe the public.  Plantations were eliminated 140 years ago, but some states just can't let go.

We do have gun laws, except for the federal ones pushed on us, that are reasonably based in common sense.

JackO might have a problem getting a carry permit here(rightly so because of his obvious mental condition), but the rest of the law abiding community would have little problem getting a CW permit.
