...so I can go on eBay and buy the bong Michael Phelps used at that SC party.

LOL.

Why is this even an issue?  Doesn't it prove that pot doesn't make you a bum?  For crying out loud.  We have bigger fish to fry, people!  The guy is an amazing Olympic athlete (14, yes, 14 gold medals).  If he wants a toke here and there, let him.  Jeez!  I've had it with LE diversionary tactics (if they focus on weed-smoking Olympiads and sinners paying for sex, perhaps no one will notice the murder rate and escalation of home invasions).

Grr!

Too late.  I can't buy the bong.  LE confiscated it.

It really is stupid... Not like the guy is moving kilos of the stuff.  Some stupid SC sheriff trying to make a name for himself.  Makes me think of the Jackie Gleason character in Smokey and the Bandit.

When Phelps gets a three month suspension and possible criminal prosecution for smoking a little bit of weed and yet A-Rod the A-Hole took steroids for three years and nothing is happening to him.

Many would argue that the cotton farmers in the 1930's were threatened by the competing product of hemp, and lobbied hard to have it banned.  Tobacco and alcohol had no such competition.

would be the fact that pot is so easy to grow, unlike trying to grow your own tobacco or operate your own still.

If pot were legal, you'd have thousands, even millions of people growing their own, and where is the profit in that? It makes much more sense to keep it illegal and spend countless billions of dollars trying to eradicate it's use and distrubution, not to mention the additional billions of dollars needed to keep these "dangerous criminals" off the streets.

SWIM smoked weed in college and graduated with honors.  And, SWIM never did anything harder, so it wasn't a damn gateway drug.  After graduation, SWIM never touched it again.  It's not the demon it's made out to be.  Anyone who has ever been to a coffee shop in Amsterdam can see the effects of soft drugs.  If they're done responsibly and not as a crutch, just recreationally and occasionally, they're fine.  In a country where the population can freely use soft drugs (The Netherlands), very few people actually partake, so there you go.  BTW, SWIM never inhaled, just like Clinton.

If that's true, then why do you have to keep stepping over people that are stoned out of their minds when you walk down Canal Street, in Amsterdam? Been there, done that. Don't get me started on drug use. My sister, Catherine, and my cousin, Pete, found out the hard way. They are no longer with us. They were both under age 35.

I am sorry about your losses.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the vast majority of those people ex-pats and tourists who were raised in countries where soft drugs are illegal?  Those folks you refer to, to my recollection, are not Dutch.  My point is that, statistically, folks raised where soft drugs are decriminalized or legal have a much better outlook toward drugs and are far less likely to become addicted or die as a result of drug abuse.

One question, and I mean no disrespect.  Did your sister and cousin die from using Marijuana?  I find it awfully hard to believe that anyone has every perished as a result of using bud.
