This is Independence Day, and what does it mean?

Independence Day, known by most as the Fourth of July,  was instituted homage to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring autonomy from the Kingdom of Great Britain,    how many citizens of this wonderful country know it?  Not many,  to most,  it is just another excuse to PARTY,  what with,  parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games.

Could it be Providence that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to later be Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, being the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but another Founding Father who became a President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third President in a row who died on this memorable day. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only President to have been born on Independence Day.

ARE WE STILL THAT STRONG NATION OF INDEPENDENCE?

I think not:  Independence does not mean flying our flag over our territory, nor does it mean having black faces in Government; Independence means non-dependence on anyone but ourselves for our own destiny.   Look around you,  see how far we have fallen from that great height.

"We are a now a nation where almost 50% of the people pay no taxes, yet receive handouts from the government in exchange for their votes.

We are now a nation where we are in massive debt to foreign and hostile countries, making us dependent upon their banks for our spending habits.

We are now a nation where people roll their eyes at the needy, and grumble that “the government should do something for them.”

We are now a nation who is dependent upon other countries — some hostile — for our energy needs, while we regulate and prevent tapping our own sources of energy.

We are now a nation who is dependent upon other countries to manufacture the goods we consume.
We are now a nation of people who are largely dependent upon the federal government to “bail out” bad decisions by businesses and homeowners.

We are now a nation of people who — after a week’s warning — wait until the last minute to evacuate from an oncoming hurricane, then blame the government for not doing enough.

We are now a nation where 2000-page laws are passed, without the consent of the governed, without even one hour of debate per page, let alone 13 days.

We are now a nation where 1 in 4 don’t know what country we declared independence from, where only 58% know it happened in 1776, where only 57% of the population bothered to vote in the 2008 election, and where everyone complains about our elected officials at every level.

We are now a nation where our elected officials don’t know our own Constitution — saying that an illegal immigrant could one day be president or that the Constitution has a “good and welfare clause” — and not only does our media remain silent, we vote these people back into office. And the people that do know the Constitution, who do know their history, and who do know that the Boston Tea Party happened in 1773 are pilloried and ridiculed."

The Romans, in their enjoyment of wealth and prosperity, in their bread & circus lifestyle, lost the memory of freedom and in turn lost their freedom as well as their nation. Are we on the road to the same? Is our government  protecting our individual freedoms, or is it now not only negligent in that duty, but has instead shackled us with the chains of slavery?   (Yes I agree with Dr Benjamin Carson an inspiring black man who worked his way up, from being born into a very poor family,  I believe without a father,  and who worked,  (operative word here,  worked)  his way up the ladder to being head of Pediatric NeuroSurgery at John Hopkins University, who has said numerous times "welfare is not here to help,  it is here to enslave the black man".

Just a little food for thought on what was a wonderful,  on what was once a deep-meaning day,  but has just become a day of selfishness.

Well its early,  and I am off to set up a Libertarian Booth in hopes of giving a little insight into the hopes and dreams of our founding fathers.

A Wonderful Independence Day to al

It means you didn't see the quotation marks.  No, I do not do plagiarism,  if I use someones else's words,  I will always put quotation marks around it.  I can put my own words together without having to plagiarize.  I have a well rounded vocabulary and am always looking to add to it.

Sorry you missed the quotation marks.

"Attribution" - add that word to your vocabulary.

Thank you for pointing out my error,  I shall in the future apply my grammar appropriately.

 Have a great Independence Day

Egypt is showing us how it's done.  The military is on the people's side for independence.

The Egyptian Military  can't show the U.S.A. anything of value about Democracy unless you
want to lose it .
Nothing I would want to  see in my country  .

This could be a ruse for farther disruption in Egypt

the military is accumulated power, which is a threat to ALL of humanity..

Egypt's government and military are funded by different international players, trust me, it only seems like the military is good to the people... Once the military has people submitting to it, it will become a tyrant too..

and most of the egyptians i see on non mainstream sites seem to KNOW this very well..

These revolutions do not stop until NO ONE is left in power! This ends with power to the people..Not the military..IMHO

"instituted homage to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring autonomy from the Kingdom of Great Britain"

Yes, but the people celebrated in the streets taverns, homes throughout the nation. Much like we do today, and despite you're believing no one remembers why we celebrated it, every kid in this nation is taught why.

It's no big deal to me that you seem to love to bitch and moan, and denigrates others, on any other day, but today, we are celebrating being Americans, and being free from the rule of Great Britain specifically, and any other power generally. I think you are lower than low to take a day where American's celebrate, express and demonstrate their pride in being an American, and what America means to them, and use it to attack other Americans.

That infanticide is embraced.
That rednecks can disriminate unpunished in certain states.
That the EPA thugs can grease politicians to achieve their silly demands.
That OSHA can institute ridiculous laws making it impossible to conduct business.
That pedophiles, rapists, and murderers can be paroled and re-enter society.

Need I continue?

For decades they have sold the same model vehicles under various brands.

as for America, it's a Country nothing more, nothing less, we enjoy our independence, because ou independence supports capital.

on how great America has been...and where it is headed.

a president that is deceitful, lying, working so hard to ensure more Americans depend on govt handouts, ruining the best healthcare system in the world (and can't give us a replacement of his own choosing on time).....

(military bases cancelling fireworks, closing pools------sounds like a great 4th??)

We don't need anymore amateurs in the WH.  Will we survive this one?

in the world, mont whatsoever other people blindly repeating it because ……

Show one bit of evidence from a reputed non=partisan study any where in the world. Our real problem is we believe we are great while other countries admit they have problems and try to fix them.

First, we need to realize we have problems, big ones then only we can even attempt to solve them.

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

thinking, and bitching and moaning about how others "Are not Worthy!" Self-righteousness is a bitch, and it takes up a lot of time and energy.

I just hope most people on the board, celebrated being an American, today, and felt the pride of being one, and enjoyed their holiday, without having to get stuck in some monologue or rant about how defective our country is, or how unworthy certain citizens are. There's plenty of room for that all the rest of the days of the year!   ;

is nice right wing crap on independence and has nothing to do with independence or the meaning of it.

Nice plagiarism but still right wing crap.
