Trump is strong enough and smart enough not to be bullied into making a false apology if any "dirt" was dug up on him. Romney and McCain were either too weak or too stupid to realize that if you spend the entire campaign trying to defend a couple of stupid statements you cede your ability to take the fight to the other guy. Trump knows this, and IMO that's is why Trump is going to win.

Remember Clinton with the "it's the economy stupid" If Romney had half the brains that Clinton did, he would have never been bogged down with that 47% comment, He would have stayed focused on hitting Obama where he was weak, just like Clinton did in 92, and as I predict Trump will do to whoever he faces in 2016.

I will still concede the possibility that if Hillary somehow survives the primaries she could be the one to beat Trump, but if Trump wins the nomination he wins easily against any other Dem.

I think "IF" she survives, Trump will be one candidate not making it all about those emails as it will be plain that she has survived that issue, and Trump is not running as a bible thumper, you don't see Trump making Gay Marriage, Abortion rights, or Planned Parenthood as his key issues. THAT is one of the main reasons Trump is so far ahead right now.

Now if Hillary runs against any other Republican besides Trump, whether that be Carson, Rubio or Bush. I can see where social issues will serve her well, especially if the Republican candidate falls into the trap of campaigning on something stupid like overturning gay marriage.

This is why I think Trump can actually win. He is smart enough to see why both McCain and Romney failed so miserably in the GE. Trump doesn't need to throw the thumpers jack shit. They aren't voting Dem no matter what he does, and the thumpers HATE Hillary.

What you are suggesting Trump do would almost certainly spell a victory for any Dem he faced and I believe that Trump is smart enough to make his own rules. Both McCain and Romney tried to throw the Thumpers a huge bone, just look at their picks for VP. If Trump can win the nomination without caving to the Thumpers he will have ZERO incentive to do so in the GE, and so far at least Trump has not been pandering to the Thumpers. I will say, if he ever does start pandering to the far right, he will lose his popular support and wind up as political toast. I am betting he is smart enough not to fall into that trap.

While Cruz is a thumper, he is also Hispanic, and  huge thorn in the foot of the establishment. He won't be seen as a Washington insider, not after his battles with McConnell.

I think Cruz makes a much better running mate than someone like Rubio, Rubio comes across as yet another slick politician. Cruz is anything but "slick"

As I have already conceded Cruz is too much of a thumper for me to vote for him at the top of the ticket, but the fact that much of Washington hates the guy is a huge positive IMO, and I think it will sell well with the American public who is fed up with Washington.

Obama has pushed more things through Congress with the GOP supposedly in charge than he did when he had a super majority.

and you misinterpret what I mean by slick. by "slick" I mean more of a physical appearance trait than a style of politicking. Former Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich is "slick" Rick Perry has that "slick" look as does Rubio, that's what I mean by slick.

I also disagree that Cruz doesn't believe in the nonsense he spews, I wish he didn't, I'd have more respect for him. Not all thumpers are liars, some actually do believe the nonsense they spew. I think Cruz is one of them. It's one of the major reasons I would never vote for him, but we weren't talking about who you or I would vote for, we were talking political strategy.
