18 trillion dollar gdp.  18% spent on Health care. (rough numbers)   So we spend 3.2 Trillion on heath care.  Explain to us what percent of taxation is required to create a single payer system. What percentage of my income is going to be confiscated to pay for this?  I already pay about 20% (federal) which includes my health care. How much more of my money is needed to pay for other people's healthcare?  Do you think single payer is going to reduce rates? Increase productivity?  Who will continue to spend their money to develop new drugs/treatments etc..?  Without a profit motive why would they?   Do we continue to pay for every man/woman/child that isn't a citizen?   If we socialize healthcare, what's next? Food?  Entertainment?

Those ain't my words, but they are the words that caught my attention in the article you cited. And oh so true!

Clearly life expectancy if longer, overall health is better, and education is higher in the very blue coastal states.  Do you realize you are helping the ones you find repulsive? As an elitist, this is the perfect argument for a market based health care system.  All your spin classes and kale eating days will result in lower premiums for Cali, NY, Seattle, etc.

You don't want single payer. Why should "we" subsidize those neanderthals that live in those ugly "FLY OVER" states. Embrace your inner capitalist self.
