Looks like the path to socialism has a major obstacle.

This is a bigger earthquake than the one in Haiti!

I can't wait to hear cunt Nancy Pelosi's speech on this. Obama's spin will be she was a bad candidate. Yeah sure. LOL

America does not want socialism, big government, big brother, more taxes, more spending, and arrogance from Washington.

Dems & Libs are now scared shitless ! :-)

to compare an election with a natural disaster.

Gotta agree with Willy this time. I'm very happy with tonight's win, but the death toll is now an estimated 150,000 in Haiti. There is no comparison, and the metaphor was a horrible one.

Landslide??? 51.7% vs. 47.1% is HARDLY a landslide, but I'm sure Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter, et. al. will be spewing the same bullshit.

Brown won, good for the conservatives, it's a big deak, but it was a narrow victory; don't make it out to be more than it is.

Coming from Massachusetts, 51% IS huge. His margin was sufficient that there isn't a need for a re-count. Considering the Senate seat he won has been held by a Kennedy for nearly half a century, and that Massachusetts hasn't elected a Republican Senator since before I was born, yeah 51.7% is HUGE. Sorry Eddie.

I am not really joking either. There are mouths hanging open everywhere across the country.

The Kennedy's must all be out getting drunk and swinging golf clubs at people.

Broader message to Obama? i think so.

Not surprising, really.  This is a country that hates drastic change.  A country overrun with idiots who respond predictably to fear-mongering littered with buzz words.  Your regurgitation of the word "socialism" is case in point.

When the left loses it is because the voters are idiots who are subject to fear-mongering.

HEY.  15 MONTHS AGO THE FEAR-MONGERED IDIOTS VOTED THE OTHER WAY. WERE THEY DUMB THEN?

The government already controls a huge segment of society and the economy, so yes. when the government takes over and/or hyper regulates another 1/6 of the economy it does approach socialism.

No nation in the world is 100% socialist/communist. Even N. Korea has private markets and some farm plots so its people do not starve.

The fact is that a state controlled health care system is socializing that aspect of the economy.

The bottom line is that the idiots, like me, don't want it. I don't need your paternalistic "You so dumb, I will care for you" attitude.

Wonderful, there's another one.  "Left."  One more buzzword used by idiots who need to have everything fed to them in the simplest terms possible.  How appropriate that someone else would come along in the same thread and exemplify this simple-minded propensity to relate everything to a nicely packaged little word or idea.  It was "socialism" for the OP and now it's "left" for you.

Every other argument you make begins with "typical left, left did this, left does that..." which is kind of stupid when applying this to someone who has never identified, voted, or even mentioned a bent for either ideology in the first place.  Offhand categorizations is your bag, though.  If you ever came here and starting exemplifying an ability to rationalize outside the boundaries of your anus, I'd have a heart attack.  And then I'd blame you for not having a public option available after it made me uninsurable.

First, you get upset that I use the term "left," as though there is no left and right and any description of those groups is fear mongering or something.

The fact that you haven't "identified" yourself is only relevant to the blind. If someone takes a strongly anti-abortion position, it is a safe bet he leans partly to the right.  If someone takes a strong pro-health care position, the odds that he is a conservative are minimal.

And the other side is so sophisticated and doesn't use slogans and buzz words.  Do you really think that?  The other side very often has a bumper sticker mentality. "Change."  "War is not the answer."  (It was for people in Dachau.)  The knocking of "Big Pharma."  (Hey, who is coming up with cures that produce breast cancer survivors by the tens of thousands.)

And the left doesn't fear monger.  Global warming will kill millions.  Obama said if we don't get health care passed thousands will die. The Population Bomb.  (Oh, yeah. That was a big one.)

As to public option - the current proposal would have limited my options in insurance purchasing, by mandating certain coverage, which by defintions limits choice.  (I have to buy a plan with X, because every plan sold must have X.)

Maybe there are other possibilities to your problem that do not require me to give up what works for me.  Let's find a solution for you.  Why does the solution for your problem have to create a new problem for me.  (THAT IS WHY PEOPLE HATE THE CURRENT PROPOSALS.)

So NOW you can make a bet as to what side of the political spectrum someone lands on based on those issues you laid out, huh?  You're a fucking idiot, Phil.  I made no comment about the probability of someone being left or right based on where they stood on a particular issue, I was commenting on your inability to see beyond that and only being able to conjure up a response based on simple political ideology.  You only reinforced that here.  What you said about me doesn't apply, you fucking genius.  That's the goddamn point.  The issues you mentioned, included ones that I haven't even commented on here.  So where the fuck are you getting this?

Like all of your conclusions, this one comes straight out of your black hole of an inner skull.  Allow ME to make a generalization:  Based on just about everything I've ever read from you here, you're a fucking idiot.  THAT'S a bet I can safely make.  I dunno, though.  Maybe you're just masquerading as a dumbass.  That would be a cool joke.

Is he the coolest guy on earth right now!!!  Well, it's my favorite color tonight for sure!

I hope we have heard the last of all the health care lies!

Cartwheels naked,

Brown won, big win for conservatives, but get real, you're acting like he won the presidency!

It is what it is; a major win for the right... revel in it, shout nada, nada, nada, but let's forego the hyperbole... it makes you sound so desperate for a conservative win.

And btw, it's NOT going to kill healthcare reform.

I'm not a conservative. I am a independent. All I want it to do is kill healthcare reform. Brown will ease into the crooked political role like they all have. I am aware that Pelosi will probably have a plan B.

But I am one who loves just a little bit of fantasy. Even if it's for a few moments.

This may be the very wake up call that Obama needed to get things back on track for the Democrats... In the long run, this may be a victory for the libs...

zorff1002 reads

I really don't think Obama has the ability to do anything with the Democrats.  He got handed a shitty set of circumstances to preside over and an even shittier group of people to preside over it with.

this may be a wake-up call to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi!

Friends,

I am thrilled to learn that Scott Brown has become the next senator from Massachusetts. His win - in one of the most Democrat-dominant states in the union - demonstrates how far out of touch, controversial and unpopular Harry Reid's policies of higher taxes, higher debt and higher unemployment are for the nation.

We were happy to donate phone lines from our campaign office in Las Vegas so people in Nevada could make get-out-the-vote calls to voters in Massachusetts.

This is an historic victory for real, common-sense solutions and yet another resounding wake-up call to Harry Reid. We can only wonder if he will finally decide to listen.

Senator-Elect Brown was elected by the people of Massachusetts in an historic special election tonight. I call on Harry Reid to immediately seat him in the United States Senate so the people of Massachusetts have a voice and proper representation during these challenging times.

Thank you,

No, I got the email yesterday.  She's running to oppose Hairy Greed this fall.

This was a wake up call to politicians period, not just the dems.  Folks are finally getting up off their lazy ass and doing something about the corrupt Washington crap.. doesn't matter which party they claim to belong to... if they aren't doing the will of the people, they need to be looking for work.

until the Dems get rid of all the DLC Dems in leadership positions. Get rid of Hiliary as Sec. of State. Get rid of Rahm as Chief of Staff. And for Christ sakes get rid of Harry Reid as the Senate Majority Leader.

I think "we the people" do know what is needed.  Ironically, I believe what we need as a starting point is to put in place is what was promised in the fall of 2008, along with new initiatives for energy while obtaining what resources we have here today that we refuse to obtain.  (Just as an example)

I hate to reference the bible here, but it is time to throw the money changers out of the temple.

I agree TJ.  It is the fault of both parties that has us in this situation.  All "we the people" ever get is "lip service"!!!

replacing the money changers with another group of money changers is something else entirely.

the only way to throw the money changers out for good is to enact a direct democracy to keep a check on our representative democracy.

txtransplant1109 reads

But I wasn't meaning to look for a replacement to the money changers...  You are right, a replacement or exchange of money changers is not the answer.  It may be considered "old rhetoric", but to me I'm going to be shouting "term limits" till I'm blue in the face.  Until we get to a point where our representative's votes cannot be bought and paid for we will continue to have these struggles.  Again, IMHO one gets 12 years in DC, and that's it.

I would consider an exception of an additional 8 years if at the end of their Senatorial or Congressional terms they are elected to the office of POTUS.  But we need to rid ourselves of "career politicians".

I hope all the crazy as shit conservatives form a 3rd party. The Teabag Party! Please, have them run for office in every single district to split the GOP vote! It would be wonderful!

txtransplant622 reads

that neither party is doing a good job of representing "We the People".  And I do hope you realize that not all of the "tea baggers" are conservatives. In the crowds I saw here in Atlanta, there was also a fair representation of independents and moderates from both sides.

The people in this country are "waking up" to the realization that neither party is listening.  Again, I hope one day that you "wake up" as well!!!

representative democracy is a dead and outmoded idea.

That's why I'm the only guy on this board pushing for direct democracy to fully realize the dream of "We the People".

First, I supposed Ted Kennedy is sitting in hell right now saying "DAMN! Karma really is a bitch!"

Ted Kennedy made tonight possible. Four years ago when John Kerry was the Presidential nominee, Kennedy himself lobbied the Massachusetts Statehouse to change existing law. At that time, MA's policy was to allow the Governor to appoint a replacement if a Senate seat opened up. The Governor at the time was Mitt Romney, and Ole Teddy didn't want some damned Republican appointing Kerry's replacement if Kerry were to win the election.

Just before Kennedy died, he did try to get the law changed back so that the Governor could simply fill his seat. He didn't want a long special election process you see. Health care was on the line. But dear ole Ted couldn't have it both ways. The statehouse never did get around to changing the law, and so we had tonight's special election.

Finally, a Kennedy found out he can't have it both ways. Hubris, karma, whatever you want to call it, I love it.

More thoughts. I cannot help but chuckle at the irony that tonight's election happened in Massachusetts. Home of the Original Tea Party. For months deaf and dumb Dems have been deriding the Tea Parties - originally organized primarily by independents, not Republicans - having a good chuckle at them and calling them cutsie little names like tea baggers (aren't Dems supposed to be the classy party, above trailer trash? "tea baggers" is just so evolved, yanno?). Well, its been 236 years since the Original Tea Party. How apropos that the next Tea Party should be hosted by Massachusetts again.

Dems, have you stopped laughing long enough to listen? You've got 8 months to get your shit together, or Coakley won't be the only Dem who gets beat in a deeply blue state by a 'long shot'. The American people asked for change, and they didn't mean the pocket change left over after all of your spending and taxing. Get the message or hit the road.
