I fail to see the connection.

I've been comparing Reagan to Obama for quite a while.  

 
However I don't see the immediate relevance in relation to the midterm election. Neither Obama or Reagan are up for reelection? This(now) is always going to be like that(then) as long as this(then) was like that(now)

 
The article should be about the future, not about comparing the past with the past.
