...Congress passed the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act.  It was a sanctions bill barring new investment in South Africa, as well as the importation of goods such as uranium, steel and agricultural products.

Ronald Reagan vetoed the bill but his veto was overridden by the House and in the Senate by a vote of 78-21, obviously including many Republicans.  It was the first time in the 20th century that a presidential veto on foreign policy was overridden.

1986 - was Reagan senile yet?
