The Dems have failed on this budget deal in an utterly staggering way. However, I have heard that the Reid proposal includes serious cuts, particularly to defense.

Wow...what amazing accuracy in these numbers...  And I was mesmerized with the in depth analysis of how the site substantiates their claim.  

In other words...  What bullshit!!!

The question you should be asking yourself is who is willing to fix the problem and through what means.

Dems are the same old broken record so far as I can see, class warfare (if I hear the word "corporate jet" one more time I am going to puke).

At least the right is actually talking about SERIOUS cuts!!

Actually, we do need to cut defense. I think the only thing we all really disagree on is where to cut first.

Terrific article, Puck,  one  of the most logical I've seen re the inconsistencies of the far right's position.  Historically, it's interesting to note the consequences of a similar decision during the Depression.  In this case it was Roosevelt who fucked up.  By 1936, things were looking up and the Dems decided they were afraid of all the deficit spending they'd used to "prime the pump."  So they produced a 1937 budget with lots of big cuts, which promptly spun the economy into the second phase of the Depression.  We only got out of it around 1940 when WWII broke out and the government ** wait for it ** went back to deficit spending to support the allies.
Now, this is not an argument "for" deficit spending ad nauseum, especially at the recent rate.  But it does underscore the logical fallacy that differentiates between higher taxes and lower spending.  Both take money out of the economy, slowing it.  Anyone who can't figure out this simple principle needs to turn in his High School diploma.
I believe the Reps in Congress understand this (though not the right-wing dimwits on this board) and press forward, the economy be damned, in their single-minded (assuming they have a mind) desire to gut the government, a/k/a The Root of All Evil.
Just wait until programs at the local level are cut and those same people start screaming blue murder.
