Some have said this is an effort to gauge support for a Dump Trump effort at the convention.  Priebus denies it.  But even if he's telling the truth (and I'd say the odds are that he is) it says a lot about the state of the Republican party.
It's hard to say what will be worse for them: Trump as the nominee leading them to disaster or Trump ousted and millions of his supporters leaving the party in a huff.
Yes, the publication is called HotAir but there's more than hot air here

If Trump is dumped and millions of his supporters don't vote, many of those votes would have gone to down ballot candidates.  My theory is most of them wouldn't have split their ballot and voted for Trump and a Democratic Senate or Congressional candidate.  If I'm right, those down ballot Republicans are screwed either way.  So perhaps there's no difference.
In the long run, I think the Republican Party is more screwed if it dumps Trump because it will have blatantly thwarted the candidate who won things fair and square.  I can't stand him, sure, but he did win it against all odds.  I really can't see the Dump Trump people succeeding.  At least if he gets his shot and blows it they can rebuild.  If they blatantly steal the nomination from him, the party will be wrecked.

If they speak again in November and Hillary wins in a landslide than "so be it" for the Party leaders to usurp the will of the people really would be the end of the GOP. Now if we could only end BOTH parties at the same time I would be all for that outcome, but to end the GOP leaving us with the Dems firmly in charge is something I don't know if this country could survive. Have you seen what a mess Europe has become, is that really what you want for our country?

...are the most vulnerable, including Brain-Dead John McCain.  Bush sees the handwriting on the wall and is trying to save the Senate majority for the GOP.

You are assuming Trump doesn't crash even further in the polls. I assume no such thing.

If by polling, and by real tangible, sentiment, the GOP (i.e. the party AND the voters) wants to dump out of Trump, they should.

Now, I am talking about a Hills lead of 15-20 points and 70-75% of the country saying there is no way they would cast a vote for Trump, or something along those lines AND and if the overwhelming majority of the R electorate want a new candidate, they should get one.

What that new candidate would do against Hills that late in the game, no one knows.

We are in unchartered waters with a nominee who has 70% disapproval.

For the R's to just cede the election to Hills, again based on all the above being true, THAT would end the R party

And anything but Trump.  If you're truly conservative you need not be afraid.  The Clintons have always been solidly in the right wing of the Democratic Party.
Fear not!

But then what if Hills is indicted and Joe Biden rides in to save the day?  Holy Schmikes!
Never mind.  Ain't gonna happen.
This country's politics is SO fucked up.  Thank god the country itself is really fine.

And I think he will.  Dubya is still not very popular among Republicans.  Remember when he came to South Carolina to help Jeb?  Jeb lost.

I doubt if this news will cause Trump to tow the line like the party officials wish him to do. It will most likely to cause him to become even more unhinged due to the perceived betraying.

......one can only imagine the carnage that will ensue if those GOP primary voters are disenfranchised by a rigged Republican convention nominating process.

My point is, if a number, granted a great number, of those people now have buyers remorse, and would have changed their vote if given the chance, the GOP should replace Trump to save the party and the nation from Hills and one party rule and control of the SCOTUS for 20-30 years.

So in essence it wouldn't be voter disenfranchisement as they would be the ones calling for a change of the nominee.

Several of the pro-Trump people here are now waffling on him if you notice, and if Trump continues this downward spiral and R's appear to be on precipice of losing the Senate and House on account of it, I think most R's at THAT point, would put party first and not Trump.

Even many/most of the ones that voted for him, possibly. We are not there yet but we may be soon.

and I never would have voted for most of the candidates that Trump beat fair and square.

I will concede that Trump has squandered a great opportunity to stay even with Hillary while she was trying to finally shed the very persistent Bernie Sanders by getting bogged judge with this "Mexican" judge issue. That was dumb and cost him a lot of ground, but there is zero chance I will vote for any GOP nominee other than Trump, I'll throw my vote away on Gary Johnson instead.

He has his head so far up "Mr. Trump's" fat ass he can't see anything but brown and orange. I'd say this shot was actually him but I'm pretty sure he doesn't own a tie
