Jew or Not Jew?confused_smile

The Apple App Store now offers a Jew or not Jew App. Type in the name of a celebrity and the app will tell you if he or she is Jewish.

At its essence, this app will give you a list of Jews.

Does anyone have a problem with this? If this app sells well, isn’t the next step to expand it to non-celebrities? I can visualize Hamas and Hezbollah and any terrorist planning a kidnapping running down passenger lists using an I Phone to see who is Jewish. I’m not Jewish but don’t I have a right of privacy as to my ethnic/religious background?

But maybe I’m overreacting here. And how would you prevent this kind of app in the internet age? Well, they did bar it in France where the app apparently violates French laws. But there is no such law in the US and the First Amendment would kill any chance of one passing.

If this is okay, how about “Gay or Not Gay?” HIV positive or Not?” User of Prostitutes?" Should all these lists be available over your I Phone with just a click?

I see no end to this crabbed use of technology.

As one of the Hebreic persuation, by ancestory, I don't care.
First, there are lots of definitons.  Cultural, ethnic, religious, hereditary on your mother's side.  I am not religious and haven't been to temple for 35 years, with the exception of when I am traveling and want to see places for historical, architectural, and artistic purposes.  My family had long been assimilated.  But every now and then someone says I am Jewish. To the extent of ancestry, that is true, and I don't care how I am labeled.

Living in the United States, I don't care how I am labeled.  I know there are a few nuts who are anti-semetic, but the number is so small, I don't care.

The others apps would be more problematic because they are more likely to be misused.

(Interesting point: No one that I ever met would have problems with me being identified as a Jew because under Jewish tradition my mother was Jewish.  There are a billion people on the world who would say that under Moslem law, if your father was Moslem, so are you.  It doesn't matter if you face east 5 times a day or believe or anything.  Under Islamic tradition, you automitcally are Moslem.  Ring any bells?  No, I don't think he is UNDER MY DEFINITION.  But I am not the one who defines for a billion believers.)

I'm watching the Jets, and I really really want Sanchez to do well. Sometimes his reads and progressions are like a rookie QB, and the Jets running game is to damn predictable. But I do like their defense.

can make any defense look good.  Their QB is inexperienced, and Marshall has hands of stone.  Also, Revis' pick-six was clearly interference.  I want to like the Jets, but look at their next three opponents.  They are primed to lose another three straight.

says Kinky Friedman (a Jew) and the Texas Jewboys.
