I saw this clip on MSNBC the other night and was blown away by this.

The number of Americans who are in favor of getting rid of the Bush tax cuts? 68%

The number of Americans who are in favor of eliminating tax subsidies to the oil/gas industry? 74%

The number of Americans who are in favor of public unions having the right to collectively bargain? 77%

The number of Americans who are in favor of raising taxes on millionaires? 81%

But, yeah, that's a liberal poll run by a liberal news network, by a liberal TV host.

In this poll 24% of the respondents were self identified as liberals. And 36% were self identified as conservatives.

...I assume that wasn't all the tax cuts, just the ones on people making more than $250K.  Why would anyone say they wanted their own taxes raised?

...that people are talking about the tax cuts over 250k. However, as I recall, I've seen a few polls in the last few years where a lot of Americans are willing to pay more in taxes in order to get greater benefits. When you look at health care costs for average working people, it would be a net gain for them. So it's not all that surprising. You see similar ideas expressed when it comes to public transportation in many parts of the country, and this sentiment only increases with gas prices.

Each of those issues were 0%. It was the St. Croix poll, which tells you I really don't give a shit about polls. I'll worry about if and when any of the above impacts me.

I have no idea how these polls determine the so-called "cross section" of Americans. I have to assume then, 50% of those polled don't pay any income taxes. If that is the case, of course they want taxes to go up.

I don't watch Rachel Maddow, but would somebody please tell her it's OK to be a lesbian, but it's not OK to be a lesbian with a Jerry Seinfeld haircut (lol).

If those are good polls, then 2012 will be a landslide for the Dems who want all those things.  If they are wrong, then it will be the landslide the other way.

The Evil and Hated George Bush will not longer be an issue.  People will have had 4 years to see how the other side delivers and what the other side is offering.

Personally, I question these statistics.  In my very liberal profession - criminal defense - in my very liberal area - Hollywood - those are not the vibes I am getting.  That is my personal perception, and we will see.

Though I'm sure the usually suspects of dead people and pets will be voting in some areas, its much harder for Dems to manipluate the results.

The Democrats hardly have a monopoly on voter fraud.

Its one party rule here.  Machine politics.

In many states collective bargaining is only a   privilege. As I pointed out to WW with  another post in Florida however it is a right, because it  is  in the constitution. SECTION 6. But striking is not allowed.

You live in Hollywood? No wonder you're conservative. The wealthiest, and most liberal, district in the country. I get much more conservative when I'm visiting LA.

You need to find yourself a young hot republican to put you in your place.  What were the other 40 percent in that poll?   Ps in case you missed Bill O last night he offered to pay the legal fees for the snyder family.

"You need to find yourself a young hot republican to put you in your place."

I guess that disqualifies you, huh? Oh well. I typically go for the progressive gals anyway. ;)

I definitely would have supported letting the tax cut drop on the 250k+ crowd (with extra tax deductions for small business) or all of them if necessary.

Tax increases are inevitable, unless we scrap social security and medicare entirely and keep all the tax revenues previously collected.  I personally don't think there is enough other domestic spending to cut to fully address the overall deficit, and I think trying to make those cuts first is going to slow the economy further creating a larger problem down the line.  Look at the last tax cut we made to social security, it's already been spent on higher oil prices  and has helped push social security to negative numbers in 2017 instead of around 2030 when it was expected.

Cuts like the one for home heating oil subsidy's.  The thought seems to be that lower income people are just going to have to make due, but whats going to happen in your state when reports of elderly people and children dying from exposure hit the local news?  Odds are your Governor is going to be pressed to due something about it at the state level, which will require state taxes of some kind.

Allot of the other savings will be from payroll of federal employees, people solidly in the middle class (35k to 80k range).
Wadges for the middle class in the public sector are flat, cost of living is going up (and is going to jump again real soon), college costs are going up; so discretionary spending is going to drop further.  Less T.V's , computers, video games, dining out vacations ect...  the things that get money moving, taxed and people working.  I don't care what a person making over 250k spends (other then small business owners), it's not going to spread money out far enough to help our economy and there for increase  tax revenues.

Check out the link, it is actually a great interactive graphs on budget items. BS sound bites and cutting foreign aid, discretionary spending, waste doesn't add up hill of beans until these idiots are willing to address the real problems that eats up the budget.

Take look, it is quite revealing.
