The out of wedlock birth rate among Americans of African descent is something like 70 percent. That is not something any political party, president, or federal program can stop. Change has to come from individuals. However, the Democrat culture of dependency, particularly with the so called War on Poverty and Great Society, have made things worse.  Note the illegitimacy rates skyrocketed since the late 60s. But it does make guilt ridden white liberals feel better about themselves that we threw money at the problem.

Koch Bros probably wrote it, or told him what to say.

Everyone knows black Americans are kicking ass with the hope and change president!!

And although whites will buy it and read it and quote it they are not his intended audience. He is not preaching to the choir with this book.

The fact is, whether you're white or black, no one will ever care as much about your life as you do. It is amazing what people can do when they rely on themselves.

Liberals do make it harder for blacks to succeed. I haven't read the book yet, but plan to. What's not said is conservatives make it down right nearly impossible for them to succeed. Many of the plans the liberals have are not well tested, and those that are, are underfunded, so are destined to fail. Of course it's usually the conservatives that make certain that they are underfunded. Check out "Where America Works" on the "Global Public Square." There are excellent examples where liberals and conservatives work together to help people succeed of all colors.

the further you venture from that, removing incentives for taking risk and hard work, the further you venture from humans and a society reaching their full potential.

There were very few regulations on capitalism in the 1890's. There was a ton of regulations on capitalism after the New Deal. During the robber baron era, children reached their "full potential" by working in sweat shops. After the New Deal, children reached their full potential by going to school.

If you want more recent data, all you need to do is look at the financial crisis and the housing bubble. Prior to the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, we had 70 years of stable housing markets, thanks to regulation on the banking industries known as Glass–Steagall. Glass–Steagall was repealed with the Financial Services Modernization Act, and that same year you saw the origins of the housing bubble that caused the financial crisis of 2008.

sleep more important at the moment.
Shorthand though - capitalism improves the standard of living, each person is an independent agent choosing what it best for them (at any given time all the choices might not look great, but he/she still has the ability to make a rational decision on what is best).  Life on this planet has been a brutal battle for survival for humans since we came to be - no other system gives individuals the freedom to thrive from their work as capitalism - this was a game changer in human history that ushered in the progess we've seen over the last 150 years or so.

Most forms of governing will work. All of their downfalls come at the hands of greed and corruption which weaken the supports, sending the structure crashing to the ground!  ;)

According to most left wingers, all conservatives are Republicans, and all Republicans are thumper, therefore all conservatives are thumpers.

Yes, rather twisted and flimsy logic, but that's the way many of them think.

BTW welcome to P&R, nice to see some new blood here.

Every nation on earth is capitalist, sans, Cuba. Yet, the majority of the world lives in 3rd world poverty. Capitalism began as a means of making colonialism possible. If capitalism improves one's standard of living, then why does Cuba have a lower infant mortality rate than the USA? Why does Canada now have a higher standard of living than the USA has, despite that there are more regulations on capitalism in Canada?

You've bought into a fairy tale without examining the mechanism of how capitalism actually works. Capitalism is nothing more than a fancy way for rich people to steal from poor people. That's why rich people and poor people exist in the first place.

Capitalism is theft.

The fatal flaw in it's logic is, if the machine was needed, in the very beginning, to make the produce. If so, enter stage right, the venture capitalist, or bank and collateral put up by the owner, etc., etc. What is also not mentioned is the start up costs of the building, utilities, advertizing, etc.
