A plane full of folks from new York / New Jersey that have never seen an orthodox Jew, what part of NY / NJ are they from? Obviously not the diamond district.

The part I find interesting is that there is not a lot of screaming about lawsuits, racism, mistreatment and so forth.  I like the attitude, mistakes were made, they didn't understand, maybe we can learn from it.

Guess not everything has to end in a lawsuit

OK WW, this is where you can jump in and say it was because all the white folk on the plane were racist

the fact that no one feels a need to sue someone. It is hard to believe that no one else on the plane could convincingly explain what was going on. Even one Christian, who has never seen a Jew, but has read the Old Testament would understand. Has no one on the plane seen video or pictures of the Wailing?

Far down in the article it was mentioned that there were only 15 passengers on board, so it's possible that nobody realized what it was, but you would think that an examination of the tefillin would make it fairly evident as to what it was...

I liked Blech's comment referring to it as a "wake up call" for religious sensitivity.  IMO as we discuss topics such as race and religion, sensitivity training is something where we all may learn something.  Acceptance is hard to come by these days.

NY to Kentucky and not Kentucky to NY?

Couldn't resist.

I actually don't blame the passengers or the flight crew. I would be freaked if a kid was doing weird shit and praying on a plane too.

"The 17-year-old on US Airways Express Flight 3079 was using tefillin, a set of small boxes containing biblical passages that are attached to leather straps, Philadelphia police Lt. Frank Vanore said.

When used in prayer, one box is strapped to the arm while the other box is placed on the head."

Really??

What no cat-o-nine-tail beatings for practicing religion overtly?

While not comparable(in atrocity)it reminds me of the 'small amish school' incident in pa. a couple of years ago. The relatives were incredibly understanding/foregiving of the shooter, and his family,in that case. The family of these children were very generous by nature. Must be because of all the money JEWISH people have.ROFL. Sorry guys; i like to screw with ya'll too!!!!!! :-D

So chengster,where your stash?!!!!!!!! ;-)

Behind the bar at the World Famous and Internationally known Boot bar and grill on Broadway, Updtown NOLA near riverbend.

I suppose it was inevitable. An orthodox Jew puts on his t'fillin to say morning prayers while on a plane, and of course these religious artifacts are mistaken for explosives.

I suppose the obsessed haters can spin this into some sort of evil Jewish Plot, I look at it as a sad example of ignorance.

And of course, everyone is surprised when the Jew decides no lawsuits... well, almost everyone.

Doesn't surprise me a bit.
