Bad news for Katie Porter and Barbara Lee in regards to California’s upcoming primary. GOP Steve Garvey jumps in the polls to take the lead over Schiff:

Garvey received 27% support compared to Schiff’s 25% among likely California voters, followed by Democratic Reps. Katie Porter and Barbara Lee at 19% and 8%, respectively, according to a UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies/Los Angeles Times poll released Friday
Good news for Garvey in the primary, but his prospects not looking good in a general election match versus Schiff.
However, Schiff would beat Garvey 53% to 38%, according to the survey, which found 9% of likely voters remain undecided.
Big picture, a non-competitive GOP vs Dem matchup would be better for the Democrats than a Schiff v Katie Porter race. They don’t like the prospect of two Democrats burning through millions in campaign cash to win a seat they believe they have a lock on.

Steve Garvey's "Cal Matters" Bio Sketch
.
"Garvey, 75, was born in Tampa, Florida. His father was a bus driver, and his mother a secretary in an insurance firm. As a child, Garvey was a bat boy for the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers. ... ..."
...
"He started a marketing firm, hosted radio shows and starred in TV series. He also helped fundraise for GOP candidates, including Presidents George Bush and Ronald Reagan. He became a motivational speaker, charging roughly $25,000 in at least one case.
.
"But his post-baseball career was overshadowed partly by scandals, lawsuits and financial troubles — problems Garvey deemed his “midlife disaster.” In 1989, he was romantically involved with three women at once and impregnated two, both of whom sued. Garvey told courts repeatedly he was deep in debt and was late on payments large and small to his gardener, caterer and attorneys, The Los Angeles Times reported in 2006.
.
"Garvey, who flirted with a U.S. Senate run as early as 1981, has promised not to restrict abortion rights, supports private investment in transitional housing for homeless people and pledges to fight “out-of-control inflation.” A two-time supporter of Donald Trump, **** Garvey has refused to express an opinion on the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.**** "
.
"Garvey has refused to express an opinion on the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol."????????? I'm not from CA, but that sounds like "Garvey thinks the Jan 6th insurrection was a good idea and is upset that it didn't succeed. If he had been in the Senate, he would have used a souvenir baseball bat to smash a few heads. He believes the Big Lie that the election was stolen from Trump but he is too scared to say so on the record and be labled a QAnon-believing Trump-worshiping MAGA Cultist."
.
Wow. He has tried to hide his ownership of a consulting biz in Utah. He abandoned and ignored the children he sired out of wedlock. Garvey sounds like another hypocritical right-wing lying sleazebag.

Katie, Lee and Schiff all had to give up their congressional campaigns in order to run for Senate. Dems have no issue with Lee or Schiff doing that, as their districts are solidly Blue.

That’s not the case with Porter’s district, and some Dems aren’t happy that Katie ran in the first place, as there’s a good chance her district could flip back into Republican hands.

I don't know CA. Who are the R and D nominees in Porter's district? (I assume candidates were determined in the same ranked-choice primary the other day. Were the top two one R and one D? Two Rs? Two Ds?) If the D is not polling well against the R, can the D withdraw from the race, shift their support to Porter and let Porter run a write-in campaign in that district?

There was no ranked choice primary the other day. The primary will be held on March 5th.

The likely results of the primary will be a Republican (Baugh) running against a Democrat. The two leading Democrats (Min and Weiss) have been attacking each other in a very nasty primary fight.

It’s extremely unlikely that the Dem winner in next week’s primary would then abandon the race to make way for a Porter write in effort. And very likely that Baugh would run away with a contest where the Dem vote was being split with one Dem on the ballot and another waging a write in campaign.

There. I said it. Smart but fat. The original Pillsbury Dough Girl.
Go Katie!
