US Drone attack kills key guy in…. the Haqqani network?confused_smile

For those of you who think we only execute members of Al qaeda and US citizens with drones, the Washington Post on page 9 today reports that we just executed a top ranking member of the Haqqani network in Pakistan.

Turns out we have been trying to get the top guy in the Haqqani network –one Jalaludin Haqqanni- for some time. In September of 2008 we vaporized his “wife, sister, and eight grandchildren.” And then in February 2010 we killed his son Mohammed “a student of religion with no direct involvement in the Afghan war,” but both times Jalaludin apparently wasn’t home.

CIA Director Leon Panetta refused to confirm or deny that the CIA killed this guy in a drone attack but said, speaking hypothetically, that  if we did kill some one with a drone, he is glad we finally killed someone old enough to shave. The drone attacks cost about a million per execution but, hey, it’s not like the US is in debt or anything.

But what I really wanted to complain about was those damn Iranians. The nerve of those guys planning to kill the Saudi ambassador in a Washington restaurant.

Suppose they had picked a night when I was dining at Citronelle where I know this guy sometimes eats? What kind of barbarians kill lovers of haute cusine just because they have a grudge against someone?

This is an act of war; it violates international law; and it is downright rude to kill me after I’ve been charged a couple hundred bucks for the 9 course tasting menu at Citronelle. This is the difference between the US and the barbaric Iranians – we would never fire drones at a three star restaurant no matter who’s inside. I am as outraged as the Obama admin about the risk of collateral damage.

Apparently, the Washington Post agrees – the Iranian plot has been on page one all week.

A masterwork of deduction on my part. Actually,
many "talking heads" on cable ( particulary from the intelligence community ) would agree with you. Doesn't fit Iranian m.o. of using proxies
( ie Hamas ), to carry out a "hit". Also, clumsily plotted & the government has nothing to gain from it. I would guess splinter group/rogue element of Quds force, but I could be wrong. Maybe whole thing bogus, or maybe they have apocalyptic death wish in Teheran, which wouldn't exactly be a surprise.

In re to drone program, IMO, it can be halted after they get Mullah Omar & the motherfucker pictured below :

doesn’t speak Spanish to hire Mexican hitmen to cross the border illegally and come to Washington DC to kill the Saudi Ambassador in a DC restaurant. And to finance the plan, a member of the Quds force wires $100,000 to the used car dealer.

Here’s the problem I have with that – the media reports say the wire transfers were “from Iran.” Um, no. There is no bank, credit union, Western Union branch or other US financial institute that would accept a wire transfer from any Iranian bank bc of the US sanctions. To wire any money, the Quds force guy would have to have the money in a foreign account that would not be subject to the sanctions. Maybe the media reports have this part wrong. But the Treasury Department has identified most of those accounts and is just waiting to pounce. Anyone in Iran knows this as well.

But my post was about the hypocrisy of the American media in bemoaning Iran’s alleged willingness to kill innocent Americans in the attack on the Saudi ambassador without acknowledging the actual body count of women and children the US has killed with these drone attacks in Pakistan.

...but I think Mari's right. This Iranian hit story sets off my bullshit detector big time. It sounds like a neocon wet dream. Need an excuse to have a shooting war with Mexican drug cartels, and Iran, which we've been itching to start a war with for 7 fucking years? Here you go, all served out on a platter. Just in time for us to go after Cali medical marijuana shops too.

I mean c'mon. It sounds like total bullshit. Our oil buddies the Saudis were the target, somehow our good buddies Israel is in the mix as a victim, the only way this shit could be any more obvious is if drone spy cameras "caught" Hugo Chavez and Kim Jong-il jacking off to the idea of such an attack.

If it looks like bullshit, and it smells like bullshit, then I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's bullshit.

"we would never fire drones at a three star restaurant no matter who’s inside"

Perhaps I misunderstood you .

  Citronelle, three star?

If I had known that I wouldn't have saved up to take a date there.
If Michel only rates three stars in your book, I think you will agree, it's still much better than the Belaggio buffet.
