He's being held accountable for lying, cheating and staggering fraud.

There is so much more in Trump's litigious money-losing background that was not presented at trial ... because it was neither relevent nor necessary to prove the case of rampant fraud by Trump and Trump Org.

Trump over-paid for the Eastern Airlines Boston-NY-DC air shuttle (and he admitted it! He also admitted to overpaying for the Plaza Hotel that he later lost due to mismanagement!) which he then converted to Trump Shuttle that did not have even one profitable month. To cut his losses, he negotiated his way out of massive loans he had taken out to buy and re-decorate the ancient fleet. That involved the banks "forgiving" (losing money) on Trump's loans. Trump was still left holding around $20 M (or was it $40 M?) in personally guaranteed debt. I think Citibank was the major bank holding those loans and it was the last time they did business with Trump. ("Victimless fraud crime. No one was hurt." Bullshit. CB was hurt.)

Trump was able to get huge loans from Deutsche Bank to do his Chicago skyscraper deal. When the real estate markets tanked in 2008, Trump had trouble repaying his loans. So Trump sued DB for causing the recession! Management at DB agreed to forgive a large portion of Trump's loans and DB took the loss. ("Victimless fraud crime. No one was hurt." Bullshit. DB was hurt.)

Trump Foundation was shut down for fraud and misuse (Trump's self-enrichment) of its phoney baloney charitable funds.

It DID come up at trial but didn't make the major headlines, but the NYC fraud trial DID include Trump's FRAUDULENT representations to the General Services Administration and lenders on their bid to lease the old post office building and convert it into the Trump Int'l Hotel in DC. The GSA has a legal obligation to protect the interests of the US citizens and maximize the return to the GSA from the lease and profit-sharing arrangement. They are not supposed to grant the lease to someone who will not be able to make the lease payments or who declare bankruptcy and try to skip out on the lease.

After Trump won the bidding war for the lease, the proposals were made public and the competing bidders, mostly experienced hotel companies, were outraged. They pointed out that the agreed upon lease terms (even Trump admitted that he OVERPAID for the GSA lease!) and the proposed renovations (something like $200 M) would NEVER be profitable in the DC market. AND THEY WERE RIGHT. Trump Int'l lost ~$80 M in it's first 4 years of operation, jeopardizing the government lease. Trump used secret, undisclosed (until much later) transfers from Trump Org to cover his losses on the Hotel and continue the pretense that he was a successful businessman.  He used Trump Org money to make the lease payments, and hide the fact that his investment was a stupid money-losing deal.

When he sold the hotel lease in 2021, the industry was shocked at what the celebrity investors agreed to pay, rather GIFT, to Trump: $375M.

Part of the $355M disgorgement comes from the Trump Int'l Hotel profits based on documents proving fraudulent representations made in the process of securing the lease and loans needed for the project ... and thus blocking a more competent and honest company from developing the hotel and protecting the interests of the US public.
