Florida and Colorado Back off Voter Purges (for now)
Some voting rights organizations say Florida has embarked on another purge and the same ones who settled the current one will sue for it. DOJ retains the right to sue Florida.
"In response to a lawsuit filed by Advancement Project, along with: Project Vote, Fair Elections Legal Network, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, Jenner & Block (pro bono counsel), SEIU (Service Employees International Union), the Florida Department of State (“DOS”) has agreed to take steps to remedy the harmful effects of its earlier attempts to purge alleged non-citizens from its voter rolls. The settlement will help ensure, among other things, that naturalized citizens in Florida are not disenfranchised by the DOS’s inaccurate purge list."
The geniuses in Rick Scott's administration were able to turn up one voter who wasn't a citizen out of 8.3 million in 2008. Florida had been trying to purge 2,600 people from Homeland Security's list in the SAVE database but could not prove they weren't citizens.
All of these people will now get a letter saying they are registered to vote.
