didn't we JUST talk about the draft?

The surge is going to be made status quo.  They'll maintain or increase troop levels till they have a plan-- in other words, indefinitely.

It's going to be interesting to see who gets drafted and who's allowed the legal dodge.  Do you have any bets?

unless the Democrats, those political suiciders, think people want to be responsible.

A draft is a guarantee of open rebellion, because there is simply not a strong enough sense that the wars are justified, or that a draft would be fair.

suddenly becoming EXTREMELY active. As well as the demographic of parents that cannot afford medical school etc for their progenies in peril.

Dean Rusk once said (if I can remember accurately)
“You cannot fight a war with an educated populace”

approval ratings would truly sink to single digits if there was one....

I don't think a draft is a good idea in any event, the military should stay an all volunteer force..

This explains the lowering of educational standards throughout the public sector. K-12, even community colleges are being starved for funds. Meanwhile, the elite universities are making it more and more unaffordable for the average family unless they can gain one of a dwindling supply of scholarships, most of which are reserved for the sports department, which is where they bring in the revenue. Ahhhh when they talk about Higher Education in this country, I often wonder what they mean by Higher.

Ivy League education doesn't seem to have helped us w/ GWB; and people sure pay for the high-level sports programs.

I'm really dubious about some of the stuff that passes for academics - "fill-in-the-blank-studies" (which is a few steps less disciplined than what we useta call the Bull Depts) but how can it be worse, or more costly than ignorance?   If nothing else, spend the money on gd language & linguistics depts.

My theory about sports is that EVERY kid should be involved in something, or a few things, and I wouldn't mind seeing the pro sports franchises pay for it.

Don't get me wrong, I sdo not object to sports at the college level. Many a poor child has found a better life through sports, and sometimes they even give so much back to the community, it has a ripple effect.
But I think we need to focus our scholarships just as much on academics as we do on sports.
But then, I'm a Communist Socialist left-leaning but pro-Israel & pro Amend. II progressive who wants to take away GaGamblers business. So what do I know?

most of them really don't interest me that much, but there's some *I* might want to take away from him.
