Casino mogul to spend as much as $100 million to sway Jewish vote and defeat Mr. Obama

That would be Sheldon Adelson, the CEO of the Las Vegas Sands. Remember last spring when I pointed out two black swans that could defeat Mr. Obama- five dollar a gallon gas and loss of the Jewish vote in swing states? This prediction was met with skepticism on the Board, with one property tax hating/chardonnay loving poster even having the gall to say “$5.00 a gallon gas maybe, loss of the Jewish vote NEVER.”

Well, Sheldon, an avowed supporter of Israel, sees it more like I do. You will see a barrage of TV ads in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania where Jewish supporters of Mr. Obama in the last election will say they are voting GOP this time bc of Mr. Obama’s lukewarm support of Israel.

If you have ever stayed at the Venetian, you’ve seen Sheldon. He zips around the casino in the fastest motorized wheelchair I’ve ever seen with bodyguards in tow. And he expects YOU to get out of his way. Not a very personable guy like Steve Wynn, who will come up and give you the “Hi, are ya winning? Well, keep playing” hello.

Anyway, look for a lot of photo ops with Mr. Romney and the PM of Israel as Mr. Romney makes his Israel visit Sunday. This will coincide with Sheldon’s ads. The GOP does not need to get all the Jewish voters but just enough to tip the balance in the swing states. His group will even make a voter registration drive in Israel where 150,000 American voters live.

It could happen, and one guy is willing to spend millions of his own dough to give it a try.

I'm an MLife card holder, so I'm committed to losing my money at Mirage, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Aria, etc.

I don't mind the $100M expenditure, I just think it should be used for a greater audience. Statistically Jews make up 6% of the population. So that translates into 6.5M people. So what do you have, about 4M voters, with most concentrated in New York, Florida and California.

Now you have the Debbie Wasserman Schultz's of the world scaring the little old social security medicare recipients in south Florida about how Republicans are going to fuck the old people. You've got the same scare tactics by every other Jewish politician. It's old, it's tired, but I guess it's an effective approach. I guess if you say something over and over it becomes true.

Add the fact that Jews are generally liberal. Fuck, it must be in their DNA. Maybe their faith, culture, identity, whatever demands social justice. And social justice can be achieved via leftist policies. I do find it funny that Jews love a big ubiquitous so-called benevolent government, especially when you take a stroll  through history. Each country they went into they curried favors with the central government, and then a genocide or two later, they're packing their bags.

I just don't think $100M is a good use of money for such a small demographic. I don't think the return on investment is worth it.

A lot of people just won't vote for PUSA if the candidate from their party is disappointing.  Not every one just votes AGAINST someone.  Many of the young, first time voters who thought Obama was different won't vote this time and neither will a lot of Jews.

to spend on such a long shot for such a small group. It only has a chance to pay off if the election is close and turns on one of the three states where he is spending the bulk of the money. And we all know Obama got something like 70% of the Jewish vote nationally last time.  So he could probably get a better return on investment if he bought God Bless Bank of America.

Of course, he has not "committed" $100 million yet. According to the NY Times, he has "vowed to spend that much to defeat Mr. Obama..."  So it remains to be seen whether he will spend anything close to this amount or place it all swaying the Jewish vote.

But, unlike you, I lose most of my money at the Venetian so I can't help but feel that I am helping Sheldon finance this ridiculous long shot.
