Yes, guns actually do save lives.

That young lady really had her wits about her.  She just lost her husband to cancer, on Christmas Day, and I have no doubt that Guardian Angels were sent to keep his family safe.

... that he was armed and had trespassed in a threatening matter.

When he did that, he wasn't prepared to play tiddlywinks.

There IS a hierarchy of values, and people's lives are NOT all of equal value. Her life, and that of her baby, were more valuable than his life, because his criminal choices decreased the value of his life.

I say good for her!

I'm not saying that what she did was not justified. I'm just saying your logic is what leads to lot of government sponsored atrocities.

An "urban terrorist" broke into an associates house in Galveston, Texas many (30?) years ago. This associate was an avid gun collector. The "urban terrorist" proceeded to come up the stairs at 2am, whereupon my associate friend proceeded to put "a lot of grain" and "molecular weight and inertia" into said urban terrorist.

Joy! But what a mess to clean up for the next week. Blood everywhere. Even up in the light fixtures. I would have been PISSED! The human body leaks like a sieve when filled with holes. And the insurance company paid nowt for the mess.

Unfortunately, said avid gun collector got sued in civil court, because the "urban terrorists" family was convinced by an ambulance chaser that the gun collector could have used a smaller gauge self defense weapon. Why use a .44 nickel-plated Colt Anaconda (Python?) with magnum loads and Talon tips, when a .22LR "plinker" would have just wounded the terrorist?

Happy ending? Case dismissed! I love Texas gun laws. And I love happy endings!

My mistake.

After further review with longtime friend, it was a .357 magnum Colt Python. All six rounds with Talons. What a MESS! Bones, brains, hair and lung everywhere! Fricken heart keeps pumpin goo long after the perp is dead. Ick!

The Grand Jury in the criminal review didn't care about the Talons. (Illegal/illegal at the time?) They cared that the perp was exterminated with extreme prejudice and without the need for lengthy hospitalizations/recovery at the expense of the State.

Huzzah for the Rule of Law!
