If we remove every last reminder of "our"(but count me out, my grandparents on both sides were thousands of miles from here back then)  racist past, then we can pretend it never happened, but then what the fuck will the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do for a living?

There will always be some racial issue for them to exploit and if, per some miracle, there isn't any, they will just make one up outta whole cloth. Lol.

But I digress...yes, this was actually a convo on CNN today. Don Lemon, said he wouldn't  be against  removing the monument for NOW, but doesn't rule out changing his mind in the future.

There is one significant difference. The Jefferson Memorial does not place honor in armed rebellion against the United States of America, the Confederate Flag does for some people.

Myself, I feel it is a states say in how the Confederate flag will be used and displaying. And, streets, buildings, etc. named after Confederate officers, in my book, can be more about their bravery and heroics as an officer, while for others it can be about their service in the betterment of their society. Of course, in my book, where there is much light shed, many shadows are revealed when it comes to  historical figures.

The American flag should come down and be replaced by the Union jack, that way it would be like slavery never even happened in this country.

This country gets more stupid everyday, removing a flag is not going to do a damn thing, what a steaming pile of symbolic horse shit!

You missed the context of the cover arts, as the term dirty south reflects an understanding that as a black person living in the south you have to put up with a confederate battle flags and the legacy people referring to confederate times as the good old days. Now if you told people that loved the stars and bars so much that for the life of them can not understand why others would be offended by it, then my suggestion would be to challege them and their families to live under the laws that govern blacks duing the confederacy and see how they like being someone else's property and being treated like an animal.

As far as the flag debate, my question is who pays for the flag and memorial and who pays for the up keep of it. If the taxpayers are flipping the bill, then I hope the irony is not lost on anyone that you have blacks and other races who would be viewed as property under the government of the confederacy paying for the memorial.

My view point let the memorial stand, but I don't taxes payers should be flipping the bill for its' up keep if they don't want to. Make it an option in filing your state taxes and if you choose to support the confederacy memorials then you will be tax for their up keep.
