The Green River Killer:

Ridgway's contempt for women in general and prostitutes in particular was clear in his plea bargain statement:

"I picked prostitutes as my victims because I hate most prostitutes and I did not want to pay them for sex. I also picked prostitutes as victims because they were easy to pick up without being noticed. I knew they would not be reported missing right away and might never be reported missing. I picked prostitutes because I thought I could kill as many of them as I wanted without getting caught."

The Genesee River Strangler:

"Once a killer like this is captured," writes McCrary, "we always compare him against our profile.  Shawcross was much as we had envisioned him."

He was a regular john, white, married, menially employed, living near the pick-up scenes, with a history of sexually violent crimes.  He often fished in the Genesee River Gorge and he'd gone unsuspected by most of the prostitutes.  The profilers had gotten his age wrong by ten years or so, but they viewed his time spent in prison as tantamount to putting his sexual crimes on hold.  Once freed, he'd resumed as if he'd never been put away.

Girls, we are in serious danger. My incident in Los Angeles has really brought into focus how easily I could have been a victim of far worse. I am seriously considering forming an association for us ladies that will somehow be helpful in many different ways for protection, legal services, health services, child care, insurance, counseling, trauma/crisis recovery, and more. I can't do it alone though. I need help from providers and hobbiest as well. Any attorneys out there who would contribute legal advice or services, psychologists who might offer research work, doctors, other professionals .... This has been a one sided business for two long. I think with the arrival of TER we can form a network that will help provide security and a sense of sanity out of the madness. Another way to help is any providers who would volunteer in crises counseling ....

I will call it Mary Magdeline Ministries, MMM for short. Not because of religious reasons, but because the  definition of "minister" is to help or assist in a benevolent manner, those in need or distress.

Now, who's willing to minister with me?

I write a regular column in www.Chronicle69.com on the Male Perspective. My Byline there is Sancho la Pansa.

I regularly approach the situation of the dire danger that Working Girls face every day. As we all know, there are men out there who have no reagard for women and human beings. Most serial killers pick Working Girls. ALso, Working Girls are regularly accosted raped and robbed every day. This is coast to coast and on any continent, not just in any one area. One exceptionally bad issue is in Iran where the religious wackos kill them off on a daily basis.

I still say that one permanent solution to keeping Working Girls safe is to legalize, or at the least, to decriminalize the "game." Just taking the girls out of the current of the underground will greatly lessen their vulnerability.

Buster is sooo right! Legalization would make such a difference in how working girls could operate and protect themselves. (Decriminalization would be nice but not as great a step forward for safety.) Once able to be open and not afraid of law enforcement the girls wouldn't have to put themselves in so many risky situations and they wouldn't be afraid to go to police when they need help. That would make it safer for everybody!
