Here is a question just for the ladies -
I Have always been curious on how cup sizes are determined.
I can read the bra sizing charts, but how does it really work?
There doesn't seem to be alot on consistency between the pics and the reported sizes.
What's up with that?

Ok. You measure all the way around your ribcage, directly under your boobs.  Take this number and add 5...that is the band size.  If it's an odd number, then add another inch, because bras are only sold in even-numbered band sizes.

Next, measure all the way around the fullest part of the boobs...typically at the nipples....and measure all the way around your body again.  The difference between the band size and the fullest measurement is the cup size.

1" difference = A cup
2 = B
3 = C
4 = D
5 = DD

For me...I measure 33 inches around my ribcage...so my band size is 38.  I have a 5 inch difference between band size and the fullest part...so that makes me a 38DD.

One big problem is that girls don't add the 5 inches, and it distorts the bra sizing.  Who knows why you even have to add the 5....all women's sizing is so screwed up anyhow.

Lots of factors determine differences in cup sizes...and help to explain why some girls 'C' cups may not look like other girls 'C' cups.  It all has to do with their personal proportions.  If you look at a 36C bra and a 44C bra...you'll notice that the cup on the 44 is larger.

Wierd math, I guess.

But...it's obvious that some girls fib, too.

The starting point for cup size relates the the difference between the measurement under the breast vs. across the nipples (or somewhere near that area). That number estimates the volume of the breast. I belive a 1" differential is equivalent to one cup size. However, a droopy breast may have more volume that a perky breast of the same differential.

So, women try on different sizes, and a 38C may be a better fit than a 36D. Also, just like dress sizes, no two same size bras are exactly alike.

This all assumes that she does not exaggerate when listing her vital statistics.

Check link below, you can see how it is determined
for yourself.  As for me, with three daughters and a wife, size is not a big deal, it is ducking and avoiding all of the bras along with pantyhose hanging around the bathroom in the morning.
