I suggest you go to the FAQ for Newbies board (Use the drop down menu labeled TER General Boards), and there you will find a link to TER's rules which should help you to know how to use TER for your benefit.
One thing you must know, is that TER is a review site, not an escort mall, and therefore you can not just put up a profile of yourself as is done with the latter. Instead, you must wait until a TER member reviews you on TER, at which point you will get a profile and a list of reviews.
If, after reading the rules on the Newbie Board, you still have questions, that board is the best for asking questions on.

If you have any reviews you can claim those and get them them attached to your handle.

On the left side of the page you will see the words "Claim my profile" in blue letters. Click on it and you will be able to link your handle to your profile. Then when you post in the future, it will say "See my TER Reviews" next to your handle. That way guys can immediately see your profile and reviews.

I don't know Northern California, but I think Sunnyvale would either be under the San Fran AD Board or the San Jose AD Board. Read the ads and follow the ad boards for a few days to see how they work. (You can also read the TER ad posting rules, but classroom demonstrations help to clarify the textbook.)

Example rule: There is a limit of one ad every 7 days, etc.
You can include a photo in an AD Board post but in DISCUSSION Board posts.
And so on.

As BigPapasan pointed out, you can claim your Profile. That also gives you FREE, LIMITED VIP which includes PM (Private Messaging; TER email) privs.
