Dressing for a date

A few weeks back there was a posting here with a list of dos and don'ts for clients. One of the don't items was "don't wear sneakers". Since I do my hobbying during the day on workdays, I show up in work clothes. The dress code here (a computer company) is "Yes, please dress before coming in" so for some folks casual is an understatement. I usual dress in slacks with a collared short-sleeve shirt (usually with a "hawaian" style print) and sneakers. If I were doing a dinner date I'd dress up for the occasion, but the only time people at work dress up is when they are interviewing elsewhere. I've never been turned away at the door, but I'm curious to hear from the ladies. Does showing up dressed casually (with sneakers) have any negative affect on you or is being timely, neat, clean and respectful with envelope in hand enough? Or do you just sigh and think "another damn software engineer"?

I'm fairly new to this business myself, so I can only speak on my behalf, but I think whatever makes you feel the most comfortable when you arrive is what you should wear.  Although it is a business, I believe this industry has an atmoshpere that allows you to do what feels good.

you do not want to stand out attract attention and be memorable. Hey - I'm bad about that too - I like my leather and sharkskin suits, my exotic cowboy boots and belts and my X rated bolo ties. But I don't wear them to dates!

I have read about some of your "outfits" showing up on a date. I do believe it was you that stated no sneakers. I could be wrong.....

As long as your a clean person, clean clothes, clean hair, teeth..you know the drill, it doesn't matter if you wear sneakers, sandles or thigh high boots if thats what your into LOL..
