this is not the forum to do that.  General Discussion or your local regional board would be more appropriate, unless your topic is relevant to another board, like the Pornstar board.

Would be great if they did, so many interesting questions that we could put out there - and while the results might not be scientific, you could still have 100s or even 1000s of replies that indeed could be a fairly representative sample of the community.

Only potential downside IMO is that these poll results could be used outside by others, who write or talk about this hobby.  For instance, results of polls about ave yearly income from this for providers, ave # clients per week, or contentment polls.  For guys, what % or married vs single, income levels, frequency, etc.  Media (and possibly even LE) could then potentially set up polls themselves to suit their own needs.  So polls could bring attention to TER that might not be wanted - then again, this site IS already out here for billions of people to see anyway, so maybe that wouldn't be such a big deal.

I don't think there is any rule about just asking a question and requesting opinions, people do it all the time.  That's what I thought the OP wanted.

Results, you can suggest it to TER. They ask for survey suggestions on the home page right under the pole voting results.
If you are just talking about asking a question on a discussion board, and soliciting replies then of course you can do it. That is one of the things discussion boards are regularly used for.

And you are correct. Just a simple question about changing a regional message boards name from a city to a state. Sort of all in favor of xxxxx, yes or no.

But this did give me the chance to express my thoughts on more formalized polls, which I think would be very interesting.
I'm a member of a different site (not hobby related), where any member CAN create their own polls and post them on the message boards and get tabulated results.  The polls for the TER community would be 100 times more interesting than those for my other community. And the ability to answer anonymously is the great thing about polling in this way.  People can honestly respond to polling questions with no worry about their reputation.  But I'm guessing that the platform TER uses doesn't allow for this type of polling.
