Does anybody know of a reliable way to accumulate cash that can be used for my hobbying? Assume that I have a joint checking with a SO.

If you have a place to stash cash, just pick a number that won't be noticed, and hold it back each week until you have enough.  Depending on your situation, it shouldn't take more that two or three weeks (if it does, rethink the hobby - it's very expensive).

If you can't stash the cash, get a Green dot card and keep putting the money on that.  If you get caught with either the card or the stash of cash, tell her that you are saving for a surprise present (it's not a lie, just don't tell her who the present was going to be for).

When my wife was really tied into the finances for a short time, the best way for me was to take a couple of hundred extra out for vacations or family trips where a lot of cash is spent, and then immediately hold back $300.00, trying not to spend it.  After the trip or vacation, I had the hobby money.

:-)

Good Luck

you have access to.

Make larger ATM withdrawls than you need and stockpile cash.

Make a move to using a debit card for everything, but continue withdrawing occasional cash to stockpile.

Repay imaginary loans to friends with checks and get them to give you cash.

Get cashback whenever you write a check or use your debit card.  $40 here and there and it adds up quick.

Donate old items that have some value to charity, but instead take them to a "sell it on ebay" store and get cash when they sell.

Pretend to start gambling, or quit gambling and continue to pretend to gamble and loose.

Set up a PayPal Account for a reasonable sounding charity and make contributions to that charity in the name of your friends and relatives for their birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas.  Then take the money and see a girl named Charity...

Get creative, think outside the box to get yourself into her box.  And remember...a devious mind is a terrible thing to waste.

And last but not least...get rid of the SO and take the short term hit to get yourself single and free to mingle!

The gambling one works perfectly for me.  I made a couple bucks last night, and will probably spend it tomorrow.

My mind just works that way and I came up with all of those scenarios just today.

becomming a male gigalo...

OK, seriously, my advice.  Buy a boat.  It gives you an excuse to get away for hours at a time and spend great gobs of money, as well as a place to play, and your wife won't want to go anywhere near it.

Giggle,
TS Jamie :-)

So that's why people buy boats.

Excuse me while I kick myself clear across the county line.

take up skydiving very expensive lessons...you may really want to take the lessons incase she wants to see you jump at one point, but its an expensive hobby as well and not many are willing to follow you out of a plane 20,000 feet in the air, no matter what.

Buy a motorcycle, she may not like to ride but if she does...you may never be able to get the bike out of the yard w/out her on the back~~or in my case following you with her own ride. So this ones tricky. Buy the bike only if she protests then you are set. Going for a ride is usually random and there isn't usually a set destination its all about the ride. A huge plus~~~a lot of hot chicks ride too so there you go!!

I'd reject the idea of having an employer divert money...
Everyone needs a bit of pocket cash...  coffee, lunch, etc.  Take out a little more than you need and stash it in cash.  The interest is insignificant...  you need a secerure place for cash, hobby phone, separate email, oh, and don't use the company computer...

It's a bet that I can't lose.  Even if I have to pay, I get beer out of the deal.

It's looking good for today.  The stars are lining up for an early exit from the office, so now I just need a destination.

I'm sure you'll find a worthy lady on which to spend your ill gotten gains.

Have fun

But she didn't answer the phone.  She's tricky that way.  My backup plan involves losing my hearing at the NHRA races...cheaper, but they want me to keep my clothes on.

don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying. I was just hoping you had a great night. Somehow I don't think that will happen with your clothes on. lol
