Private #s

I've now had 3 appointments where I showed up (right place, right time), I call the number to announce that I'm there, and then I get their voice mail. (several attempts)

I was able to get hold of one girl (whom I assumed stood me up) from my home, and apparently the problem with her was that my cell phone was listed as blocked or private.

Is this likely the problem I've been having all along? Will providers ignore calls from a private #, even if it comes exactly when they're expecting you? Do you tell them your cell # so they'll recognize it when you call?

(I usually initially call from my home and not my cell; is this also a mistake?)

If a poll were taken, you would find that almost no provider would answer the phone where caller ID reported a blocked number.  That is why so many ads tell you to turn call blocking off.

Further, I would avoid calling a provider from your home number.  It's to easy to get personal data on you by doing reverse lookups on your home phone.  Further, if you have a SO at home...well, that can lead to problems!  Stick to your cell so the lady in question can recognize your number!

if it is, just dial *82 before the number to
unblock it.  You can check that on the home phone
also.

Be careful. They will not take private calls to protect themselves. Once you are a regular, they should have a number you can call private. They have caller id so each time you call it's on there. When places get busted everything is taken by the cops (caller id box, computer with your credit card#, phone #, name, etc.)

Yeah, unblock it.  I'm single and have no concerns about some provider having my number.  If she is a professional she won't keep contacting you unless you have some such arrangement or friendship...or the unthinkable but let's not go there.

Bottom line is you can get your number changed if you absolutely had to, such as in the case of a psycho chick, which is very unlikely to say the least.  I'd rather risk having someone know my number than experience these no shows and issues you've been through.
