alias vs user name in reference to posted reviews

I've been unable to change a user name (my original vip member name) which I'm not wild about. This has opened the door to my creating aliases and letscuttothechase is one such alias. I have posted reviews of providers and they show up under a different name (the vip member name/user name).
This post will answer one of my questions ( will a little symbol show up stating letscuttothechase has #x reviews on TER by linking the alias with the actual member name displayed with the post, or are they kept as separate entities, thus allowing ability to publicly ask questions while maintaining anonymity from reviews of providers?).
Second question: I went thru the process of attempting to change member name but was only told my choice or 16 characters was not acceptable. What are the exact parameters for changing user/member name?

It is possible to have your user name changed, I changed mine (like an idiot my original name was way to personal).  However, that was before I submitted my first review, maybe the rules may change once you do.

The purpose of an alias is to post messages anonymously.  If there was a link to your reviews, the anonymity is lost.

BTW, using an alias can be very limiting.  By using one, you've made it impossible for other VIP's to PM you to either give more detailed info than they are willing to post on the board, or to provide private comment on your pearls of wisdom.

The use of aliases can also be controversial on the regional boards.  They are frequently used to post some of the most negative, and at times, cruel, comments, which no one really knows who they are from, and can respond to personally.

Was glad to see that the reviews posted under my original member name were not linked to this alias post. Not that there was anything to hide here, but under another post I plan, needed to be sure no link to protect the innocent. I certainly understand the pros and cons of aliases. That is why management has made that option available to us and also why they sometimes moderate us out of here.
Still would like to know what are the parameters to changing original name, and will posted reviews follow suit or have to be resubmitted or lost in the shuffle?

If you change your username, all existing posts AND reviews under the previous username will reflect the new name.

Regarding username parameters and character length, I forwarded your question to TER and will post the answer when I hear back from Support.

Per TER Technical Support, here are the current username format requirements:
- maximum 16 characters
- alphanumeric characters only with no spaces
