Ladies, please don't shoot the messenger.  The URL below is a site supported by the City to boost tourism.  Some stories on TV state that hotel rates are lower than otherwise from January through March.  Perhaps some of you who feel forced to add surcharges when visiting the Big Apple might find this site useful.  BTW, I am not in the hotel business but just want some of my favorite out-of-town friends to consider a visit.

Winter can get pretty bad here...thus, the lower hotel rates, at least some of the time.  Take advantage of them if you want...

Most tourists want to see the tree and feel the christmas spirit if they're going to spend winter time in NY.  

So yes, makes sense that it would be slow post new year!

The first day of the year. New Years Day. A great day to travel within the city and ironically enough, a very quiet peaceful day too at least until about mid afternoon.
