I have skipped the Book of Mormon on my last two trips (opting for shows with easier availability at the last minute) but now it looks like there are some openings for this one while I'm in town next week.

I'm a Broadway addict and generally see 4-5 shows every time I'm touring in NYC, but I've looked up some of the songs on youtube and haven't been blown away. Of course, they are doing a pretty good job keeping live excerpts of the show under wraps since it's still new and making money, so could I be missing the best bits by not being able to see the performance, only hearing the songs?

What I really want to know is... is it GOOD? Or just another South Park spin-off?

If you have an opinion, I'd love to hear it.

I actually just saw it last night. Funny & ironic, but I wasn't blown away. The music was catchy. And it was good but not great... Didn't conjure any emotions within me during the whole show. I'm also a Broadway addict and even have the live usual last show performances downloaded on my computer. I would have preferred spending my money on seeing Chicago again or Wicked, shit even the Lion King! Lol. Definitely overrated, sad to say.

It is by far the funniest thing I have ever seen.  Possibly better than The Producers.  See it!

And, I don't think the Award committees would be impressed with a spin-off.

9 Tony's
5 Drama Desk Awards
4 Outer Critics Circle awards
and, 1 Grammy

It's amazing. Best bway show I've seen, though it was better with the Original cast. Still hilarious, though

I see we've just about split the room! Thanks everyone, this has been helpful. I now have a better idea of whether I'll love it or not, and now I wont go expecting too much.

I like musicals where the lyrics and notes will play themselves in my mind. The music that keeps on giving. The Book of Mormon did not do that for me.

My God, do not miss it. Seriously, I almost peed in my seat (sorry for graphic image ;-) )

Best ab work I ever had and would see it again. Beware--the songs will stay in your head for months to come..."Hasa Diga Eebowai".

Not exactly high-brow entertainment (although, they do a pretty good job of depicting General Butt Fuck naked if you are familiar with him) but best comedy I've seen in a long, long time.
