Yes, in an election year, the incumbent administration likes to crack down on crime. But providers? In New York? Is this an attempt to "energize" Republican voters who may be buying into the "moral values" argument that so many pointed to after Bush's re-election? Is the idea that Bloomberg's popularity in the outer boroughs -- never high -- can be strengthened through this? Is that all there is to it or is there an agenda beyond that simple notion?

... if this is a concerted campaign to crack down in an election year, why is there not more and wider publicity about a "campaign," like LaGuardia busting up the slots, gin mills, etc.?

that the word 'Nazi' is in most cases simply a pop-culture term referring to anyone who makes unreasonable and seemingly arbitrary rules.
