There are several other offenses that will keep a person out of Canada, depends on how the offense is viewed in Canadian court. It doesn't matter whether you are driving or not, all passengers must show their passport.

I've worked in the hunting and fishing guiding business for 20yrs now and there are a lot of reasons they won't let you in!!!!!! They will turn you away for DUI, any felony charge or any assault charge. They don't care even how long ago charge was you aren't getting in. Just a for instance we picked a couple guys up for a father son trip who flew into Bangor, ME and we were headed up to New Brunswick, Canada to fish for Atlantic salmon. The son was taking his 83yr old father on a trip of a lifetime and possibly his last chance to do something like it. We actually mentioned the resctrictions but the father completely forgot that back in 1945 he was involved in a fight in a bar 2 days before he shipped out to France to fight in WWII. He and 10 other guys were arrested and charged with some sort of minor assault charge where it was just a bunch of stressed out military guys blowing off steam before they risked their lives for freedom. Didn't matter when it was on their records and 60yrs later he try's to cross a canadian border and he is told he's not welcome. He didn't even think about it when we asked as it was just a bar fight between soldiers. Was a sad day for us at border!!!! It all worked out in long run as we made it right with both father and son but it's buyer beware when trying to cross. You can possibly get into canada with some crazy paperwork but if you don't have real good reason other then being a tourist it's probably not worth it!!!!!!
