When I was married, I probably would have answered yes, but that's because (at the time) my idea of my best self was really wrong.
I wouldn’t say I’m my best self because I gave up many of my passions, I find I have less to talk to people about so in that sense I am no longer my best self, but I’m am more content in my daily life, my emotions are more stable not the rollercoaster I lived in my 20s so in that sense I am a better version of myself.

Nevertheless unless someone is antisocial everyone tends to behave in a way that seeks approval of those around us. More so for spouses.

Plus if you go into a marriage you have to accept that you are going to have to compromise, give up some things, give up some control. There is always going to be tension in that.
