Shopping at Marshalls and Marshall Fields

During a most recent long posting, there was a reference equating
providers with Marshalls and Marshall Fields. That reminded me that my last few trips to Marshalls[wink] were much more satisfying and gratifying than my trips to Marshall Fields

Agreed.  Marshall Fields is a dowdy, backwater retailer that caters to dull midwestern tastes.  If you want a REAL shopping experience, go to New York and try Bendel's or Bergdorf Goodman.  Around here, Nordstrom seems to be the best, especially for shoes, and Nieman Marcus (which is owned by the same company as Bergdorf's) isn't bad.  Nieman's top floor in Gaviidae is the discount section; good buys can be had, as can a couple of hoots.  Nordstrom Rack, down the aisle from Nordstrom on the third floor of the Mall of America, is pretty good, too. And of course, there's always Marshall's.

I gotta say I went to Marshalls today and received some great deals.  I purchased 2 pair of jeans and a ecko outfit for my son, myself 2 pair of slacks with a knit shirt and my husband a soft silk top and clean black pants all for $140.00.  I thought that was quite a good deal for so much stuff and in each dept with name brand as well.  Also I noticed that foot locker next door is having a 2 for 89.99 sale. Check it out.  Jessica

I think you all have missed the point?

I don’t think people are so much missing the point as avoiding the point.  There seems be an elitist attitude among many of the members that if you are unable afford shopping at “Marshall Fields” on a regular basis, or are simply unwilling to pay premium prices (which BTW have been rising at a rate well above the rate of inflation), you shouldn’t be shopping at all.

I think hobbyists are afraid to admit that they like to shop for deals at “Marshall’s” for fear of being labeled an undesirable client.  Snobbery at it’s finest.  Personally, I’ve found quite a few bargains at “Marshall’s” and have been disappointed with “Marshall Fields” before.

Far too many girls seek to grant themselves instant “elite” status without earning their stripes.  Conversely, it is also possible to get a quality experience from less expensive providers.  And no, they are not all low-class skanks, as some higher priced providers would like you to believe.  Of course, there are many bad low-cost providers, just as there are bad providers asking elite prices.  It hurts a lot more when you get stung by a high priced provider, however.

For the record, I am not disputing that there are a handful or so of local provider who legitimately earned their elite status by demonstrating consistently high standards and superior service over time.  The demand for their services is great for obvious reasons, and it is only logical that they’d command a premium price; if for no other reason than to curb demand to a serviceable level.  Most providers, however do not fall into this category, but think they can instantly gain top tier status just by charging top tear prices.  It just doesn’t work that way.  It is not too difficult to find equivalent, if not better, service for much less, so why waste money?

Fianly a voice that speaks the truth. I frequently shop at marshels also and couldnt agree more. Some of the marshels "staff have been regulary 8s or 9s if reviewed also alot more bang for the buck if you can find a diecient one.
