April Date Ideas in Minneapolis

Spring has sprung although, if you ask me we are in “faux spring” which is really second winter but we never really had first winter. I digress. Decided I’d add some positivity to the board and throw in some ideas of things to do around town solo or if you’re a fella who isn’t gun shy about being out and about with a provider.

Sports:
Twins season home opener happens April 4th, 2024 with about 13 home games throughout the month.
Minnesota United FC are back in action with 3 home games as are the Timberwolves with 8 home games, and the Minnesota Wild with 4 home games.
The Frozen Four will be here on April 11th and 13th. Tickets are starting around $500 for all the games but this would be a pretty amazing date!

Concerts + Shows:
Chris Stapleton and Marcus King, two of my personal faves, will be here April 6th at US Bank Stadium. I’ve been waiting for this!
On the other hand, Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World will be at the Target Center. This was a hard blow for my inner teen angst because I love these two bands as well.
The Minnesota Orchestra has 9 performances on the docket. Fun fact only 50% of the human population experience goosebumps when listening to music. It’s actually considered a phenomenon and scientists still don’t understand why.
Sum 41 will be at the Armory on Tuesday, April 23rd and Dustin Lynch (Party Mode) will follow up at the Armory on Thursday, April 25th.

Comedy:
Katt Williams, fresh off his Club Shay Shay interview, will be at Target Center on April 4th. I’m very excited given his most recent witty quips like, “You have an unnatural allegiance to losers, that’s not like you” or my personal favorite, ““If you wanted me to speak more highly of you, then perhaps you should have treated me better...” You don’t get to narrate MY story of MY experiences with you.”

Theater + Film:
The Lion King is making a comeback at the Orpheum Theatre and will be running until April 28th!
MSP International Film Festival occurs from April 11th - 25th with over 250+ films and over 50,000+ attendees.
The Gutherie is spending time with Shakespeare through April with enactments of Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V.

Restaurants + Cocktails:
Owamni, by the Sioux Chef, is usually at the top of people's lists. It's difficult to get in for dinner for lunch is normally pretty easy. Other spots people like: Martina, Khaluna, Manny's, Restoration Hardware, Billy's Sushi, Flora Room (speakeasy), Porzana, Billy After Dark (speakeasy), Hewing Hotel Lobby Bar, etc

Minneapolis Craft Beer Festival occurs on April 13th.

Obviously, this list isn’t inclusive and exhaustive of ALL the things happening in Minneapolis but it’s a pretty great start! Let’s hope there are some Minneapolis/Minnesota ladies around to enjoy this month with!

What a great roundup Paige! Thank you for sharing! I hope some lucky few get the chance to take you on some fun dates!  ❤️❤️

Love this and honestly I just don’t know what’s good in town. Just wish my atf was down to just go out .

Summer music in the Twin Cities is what I look forward to all winter. I just wanted to add on to Paiges list she has great suggestions but I thought I’d add some lesser-known shows. I tend to steer towards the smaller venues considering ticket prices these days can quickly bankrupt a person (don’t get me started).

Comedy: Marc Maron, Nikki Glaser, Anthony Jeselnik, Chelsea Handler, Lewis Black, Dave Attell, Jim Bruer, Bill Maher, & Gabriel Iglasias,

Music:  Jason Bonham’s Led Zepplin, Violent Femmes, Portugal the man, Billy Strings, Social Distortion, LCD Soundsystem, They Might Be Giants, Janet Jackson, The Pixies/Modest Mouse, Black Pumas, Amos Lee, Earth, Wind & Fire, Foo Fighters (finally!), Tedeschi Trucks, Cage the Elephant, Metallica, Green Day, Def Leppard/Journey & Rob Zombie

Don’t forget the State Fair that so far has Motley Crüe, Blake Shelton, & Chance the Rapper

There’s also the Breakaway Music Festival (EDM), Basilica Block Party (Goo Goo Dolls, Counting Crows), Lakefront Music Festival (Pat Benetar, Dierks Bentley, Elle King), Twin Cities Jazz Festival & the MN Yacht Club Festival (RHCP, Gwen Stefani, The Offspring, Black Crows, Alanis Morrissette…see you there!)

Theater: Cirque de Soleil, Come From Away (highly recommend), Little Shop of Horrors, & Six: The Musical

Also, if you’re looking for a road trip Duluth has Willie Nelson, Trampled by Turtles and the Bayfront Blues Festival. The Ledge in St. Cloud is a fantastic venue if you’ve never been and has some pretty decent upcoming shows including Jason Mraz, Primus & Buddy Guy.

Have a great summer!

I tried to keep it to things happening solely in April but it’s never too early to start planning. Shows sell out all the time! I appreciate you bringing these to our attention.

Also, co-sign to the Foo Fighters. I saw them in Nashville during the Broken Leg Tour and they are one of my favorites to see in person.
