With a group or just the two of you ...

The Melting Pot downtown Mpls - it's exactly what it sounds like, fondu!! From cheese fondu to lots of meats and veggies to dessert it's fun all the way through.

Gotta have the flaming turtle chocolate fondu ... Served with fruits, brownies, Graham cracker covered marshmallows, brownies, cheesecake and more.

If you do choose to go there please let me know how much you loved it.

Happy Birthday!!!

Tasting menu at Travail. Be sure to bring a friend as it is for two. Come hungry as it is 10 courses plus the cooks will bring you all sorts of stuff they are trying out.

Only other place worth it is The Strip Club.

Cafe Ena is Latin Fusion. Wonderful flavor combinations.
Burrough - Experimental chef. Unexpected combinations almost always work. Beautiful presentation.
Bachelor Farmer - pretty simple food, but fresh, organic and perfectly prepared. Great bar in the basement.

Great suggestions that cover the broad spectrum of the Cities dining scene.
Some observations:

I have not been to Travail's new location but their old spot was just WAY to loud.  The selection of small plates is a lot of fun and casual.  Their brethren, The Pig Ate My Pizza, is now in their old location.  Great pizza with the Travail twist but not worthy of a B-Day dinner.

Borough also has a upscale bar located in the lower level named Parlour.

I can't believe Bar La Grassa hasn't been mentioned yet - located just across a small parking lot from Borough.  Anything Chef Isaac touches is gold, including Burch and his original 112 Eatery.
In between La Grassa and is B'Witched - GREAT deli and lunch spot - my fav combo, 1/2 pastrami and spinach salad.

Restaurant Alma: small, intimate and chef driven.

Sushi: In my opinion Origami is the place to go for a more upscale experience.

A couple others that aren't quit B-Day worthy but are fun places are Freehouse and Smack Shack.
Happy eating.

Recommended to me by my trainer.  I haven't been there but he says it's the Best place ever.     I'll need to check it out firsthand myself.

Get the Chef's tasting menu with the wine pairing. It is usually very good. Be sure to sit in the bar, which is more fun that the formal dining room. It isn't cheap.

You should check out the new Travail, I think the new location is an improvement in a lot of ways, and I really dig the open floorplan. Though you are right that noise can sometimes be an issue as they like to turn the music up but for some reason it doesn't bother me as much there as it does at say Butcher and the Boar where I always feel like a I need to shout to have a conversation.

I thought you were pulling my leg for a minute there until I googled it. Silly me, the only "downtowner" I knew of was a car wash. HAHAHAHAHAHA!  Sounds like it's a really tasty place. Thanks for the suggestion, I may have to put this one in the top 5 to try.

Thanks for the birthday wishes & you have great taste. The melting pot is one of my faves. I haven't been to the one in Minneapolis yet though so I will have to put that on the to do list.

Yum Karley you sure know how to make a girl hungry. Every single one of those places sounds amazing. I've tried Ruth Chris and Capitol Grille in other cities but not here yet. Although I will probably have to do Capitol Grille very soon because I love their fish that they filet right at the table with the butter caper sauce. I can't remember the name of it but I do know it was amazing and just thinking of it is making me hungry. Yum yum yum! Thanks for the great suggestions and it sounds like you love food just as much as me. Maybe we'll have to meet up for dinner and drinks sometime.

With all the amazing places you all have given me, I think I'll be trying new places for a month maybe two, but it will surely be a great way to get to know the Twin Cities. Thank you, thank you, thank you and cheers to an amazing weekend for us all!
