Guys, if you don't have a separate hobby account, please clean out your contact lists before you join LinkedIn. The site harvests your email account and will send invitations to connect on the site to everyone you've contacted before - including providers. This is an issue of discretion and common sense. If you wouldn't invite us to a work party to introduce us to your coworkers and your boss, presumably you don't want to invite us to that party either.

Be safe during work and play!

A friendly reminder from your friendly neighborhood provider,

I get a few invites a month and from some whom I did not know their full name much less where they work and other info on linked in. Being smarter than the PC can be difficult at times but this is an easy one ... Use separate accounts!

Joie

I think it would be incredible to have you show up at a work party.  :)

A well known provider once told me a couple of her "regulars" even tried to connect with her on LinkedIn.

Unless for some reason you want it to send invites to your contact list.  I personally use separate browsers for hobby vs non-hobby activities.

On the one hand we have a number of people who insist a hobbiest should never use his/her real name for anything.

And on the other hand we have people who are using their Linked-In email for hobbying.

There has to be a happy medium somewhere.

hat would be probably about half!!!!!!   And I think you're a bit harsh here BUT I also think they should change their email accounts to hushmail or some Canadian or other safer service that isn't gmail or yahoo... but even gmail and yahoo are better than ones work or personal email with personal RL name attached to it.

Some people are very trusting and they are ok to be that way most of the time while certainly it is wisest to remain anonymous at least initially and perhaps, in absolute terms, as best as you can, always.
