shall we guess what they expense it under?
Apparently paid-for sex is okay once you are elected. No hypocracy in evidence that I can see!

All I have to do to get all the hot sex I want for free is move to North Carolina and somehow get elected to some office.
Do they still elect dog catchers down there?
Rretty much! The dog catcher lobby is strong in NC.

but there are no reliable news sources for this info. Would LOVE to be able to back it up!

Yeah, it really happened.
Just about everything is a tax write off!
Have a "business meeting" with a provider, food, drinks, hotel, etc. all can be written off.
Gifts you give...although I usually don't do the vibrators, dildos, strap-ons..
I have had the unpleasant experience several times, as I bought companies and rebuilt them over the years. I don't just use a “tax guy” I use an experienced tax lawyer. Bottom line, don't get your tax advice from a sex board. A person or business can write whatever they want off, but if they are ever in an audit and have to try and justify writing off “hobby” related expenses, well let's just say that person will learn a new meaning to the term “getting fucked”!

Never been audited but I also use "experts" in each area whether it's lawyers, accountants, taxes, etc....very expensive ones, too. My 'tax guy' encourages me to account for all monies spent if possible and is very creative but far from stupid as am I.
Not giving anyone advice, I'm only commenting in the context of the original post about NC politicians, etc.

All good to use high paid experts, however let's not forget that the "hobby" is an ILLEGAL activity and the simple fact is that anyone who says you can write "hobby" expenses off is inviting you to have real trouble with the aggressive IRS we have to deal with today! Don't forget, if you are in an audit, you will need to identify the person you had a meeting with to justify the expenses, which now puts the lady at risk... So, c'mon writing hobby expenses off on your taxes is simply a huge risk.

It's quite ambiguous, still, and can't (I don't think) be equated to straight hobbying with escorts. It is only referring to the ethical exchange of sexual relations between lobbyists and elected officials. I think they are pushing the line quite a bit, but I don't think we can go straight to escorts.
North Carolina has rules that limit or prohibit a politician's ability to accept gifts from lobbyists, and all gifts have to be reported. Now the ethics committee says sexual services provided to a politician have no 'monetary value' and therefore are not gifts. Completely ignores the fact that someone might have paid a lot of money to the person providing those services. Therefore, politicians can accept sexual favors provided by lobbyists without having to report anything because they aren't gifts. It is certainly possible there are attractive female lobbyists who will offer to fuck politicians for free in return for favorable treatment. But really, how long before male lobbyists start using their expense budgets to purchase escorts for randy politicians? The politician isn't even doing anything illegal. He's not paying for sex, and 'has no idea' that anyone else is. Lobbyists can pony up thousands of dollars for sexual services and nothing has to be reported. Only thing preventing it from happening is the lobbyist's, or politician's, personal code of ethics and both groups are famous for seeking any loophole. It's a pretty straight line.
I doubt tax deductions are really an issue. If the lobbyist's client benefits from it, they won't worry about the tax deduction.

Since the story is out in public, that's too much bad publicity to let it stand.
I'm sure they'll plug the hole but with what is the main question here right?
