"Four of five men who were lured to a hotel Nov. 20 by a woman with an advertisement on Backpages.com have been charged in Blue Earth County District Court."
They were charged with a felony because the hotel is located near a park in Mankato.

At least one of the guys that was arrested had seen the provider in the past. He obviously assumed everything would be o.k., but somewhere between then and now she started working with LE.

It sounded like he didn't know that he knew the provider until after he arrived at the hotel.

enhancement.  I am familiar with the area and you'd never guess there was a park there.  It is about like telling your kids to play in the freeway.

I love the comment from police indicating they want to "eliminate" the crime.

Jane Goodall is an anthropologist who spend most of her career living among chimpanzees and documenting their behavior.  She once observed that female chimps would provide sexual favors to males in exchange for food, twigs and other things of value.

Johnny Carson responded to the story in his monologue:  "How about that, it really is the world's oldest profession."  Sorry officer, not going to be eliminated any time soon.

I am so sick of hearing the trafficking bullshit regarding ladies who have gotten into the business of their own free will that I want to puke

No, the other was at a different hotel not near a park.

that's what they claim, so they had 2 sting locations?  Require 2 gals, 2 ads and 2 teams?  Maybe!  I am skeptical though.

Felony boots that one from his job.

Badly spent time and resources regardless, but treat everyone the same if you are going to do it.

it really give a HUGE amount of grey area to prosecute who and when they want.  What is the legal definition of "near"?

Hey hey, check it out, today's paper says crime is down in MPLS  in 2014, but violent crime is up!

Interesting road were are traveling when it comes to fighting crime.  You can get a 100 dollar ticket on U of M campus for texting when you walk across the street, but rape is up!  Interesting priorities for law enforcement.  Collect more money or prevent violent crime!

If you are not going to believe the news reporting that another sting took place on a different day, not much point in arguing.  If the police are lying to the news media, they are subject to personal liability due to the color of authority they get with the job.

The corrections officer will lose his job as a result of the charge.  It has to do with no tolerance for vice related offenses for law enforcement officers.  The examples of this are common, but the Chief of the Robbinsdale PD was force to resign after a run-of-the-mill misdemeanor bust.

The legal definition is within one city block or 300 feet whichever is greater.

This sting is low hanging fruit for LE & courts.  They can point to this and say they are taking steps to stop human trafficing and cleaning up the neighborhood and being tough on crime.  The courts get a quick plea deal conviction and the DA's conviction percentage goes up.  Then they make money off the fines.

How about catching real criminals, burgulars, rapist, child molesters, meth labs, etc. and leave the people that aren't hurting anyone alone.  But that would require a little effort.

Sorry for my rant.  I'll get off my soap box.

Two people having sex in a hotel room when money is exchanged is a threat to people, particularly children, in the park but if those same people just went there after meeting in a bar then there is no danger to anyone.

Are you 100% certain your not hurting anyone with your 'hobby?' Wife, kids, husband, etc, if they knew about your activities.
