Ok being born & raised in Maine and the son of a Lobsterman I have to call foul on this....  It bothers my "delicate" Down East sensibilities to know that you will be eating sort-of lobster at the State Fair in Minnesota, and that's what most people here would base there lobster experience on.  I could see if it was the Big E, that's New England's regional "State Fair".  No offence but it's just not right.  It's kind of like if I would go back home and order Walleye, we don't have Walleye in Maine.  It's just not right.

I hope it's good and you enjoy it, now I'm hungry, but trust me there is nothing like a fresh lobster right off the boat.

For my money you want some great fresh lobster with out all the work?  Try Red's Eats in Wiscasset.  The best lobster rolls in Maine, in my opinion.    Red's is a tiny roadside mom & pop stand were the locals eat.  One of my best memories as a kid was going to Red's with my dad, uncles and older brothers right before the start of tuna season.    Good times!  So Karley. when do you want to go??????

I agree 100%! There is nowhere in the upper Midwest that even comes close to it even if it says "Maine", just doesn't taste right.
Even sushi places here aren't all that great.

Eating 'Good' seafood in the Midwest is like eating 'Good' beef in the Caribbean.
Leave seafood to the coasts or an island for me.
Yet, I recently had an exquisite dinner at Ocean Aire, so who am I to really judge?

-As to the OP- I am a FAIR nerd; I go many of the 12 days. I stick to only a couple items each visit otherwise my tummy is mad and I have to run further the next morning :-P
For me -The Corn by the Grandstand is a must have. I am also fond of walleye ;-)

Great post!
Great side track discussion.

Are you going to the Fair this year?

...we can in the Midwest so I guess it evens out. Maine and Minnesota have loons in common, tho. I wonder if they'll ever serve Loon on a Stick?

Me too Bri!!Sure you can make them at home, but they just don't taste like they do at the Fair:) A few other favs are Foot Long hot dogs with plenty of fried onions, how doesn't crave a Foot Long from the fair in the dead of winter huh? .  The fresh french fries with plenty of salt and vinegar-( eat fries with ketchup at home) Then dessert, go and get a bucket of chocolate chip cookies, head over to the dairy "Milk" booth and buy the all the milk you can drink menu choice. Finally sneaking a smoke behind buildings, heading over to a beer garden and waiting to head to the Grandstand for a great show-(Linkin Park), that is...if I can walk...LOL !.
