Is it just me or.....

has anyone else been receiving alot of emails with attachments? I have even received some from known providers. I know that these individuals have nothing to do with this because all the emails have "Thank You" in the subject. While I was out of town I was flooded with about 150 of these emails and they all had attachments. I am not really sure how viruses work and I thought that this must be what these are so I threw them away. I am just trying to find out if this is an isolated incident or if anyone else has been targeted.

Any help here will be appreciated,
Nikki

It's not just you.

As long as people insist on using Microsoft Outbreak, inboxes will continue to be stuffed.

You mean as long as people insist on not patching... These problems were fixed years ago.

That is simply not true.  That would imply that any new OS with MS Outbreak preloaded purchased since "years ago" would be 'fixed.'

Perhaps, my experience has been otherwise.  Outlook 2000 with the security patch as well as the default installs of Outlook XP and 2003 have caused me no issues.

Unfortunately there are people in the computer field who would rather misspell product names with childish spellings than offer useful advice to endusers to fix their systems.

I thought the advice was clear:

Don't use Outlook, it's the worst.

Everyone getting those stupid "Look at this" emails this week could tell you that.

I was simply pointing out that your statement that the problem had been fixed 'for years' was extremely innaccurate.  Microsoft is having to patch holes in their terrible software almost daily.

Products that are days old are vulnerable, let alone years.

If you insist on using Outbreak, check for and install patches or updates Every. Single. Freaking. Day.  Twice a day even.

Have fun.

It's the Sobig.F Virus - it's annoying but as long as you don't open any of the attachments you'll be ok. Just remember to keep your anti-virus software up to date

I am in the technical business. I have spent the last 2 weeks cleaning up the latest viruses that have been released into the wild. I second the earlier post about keeping your virus software up-to-date..you do have virus software don't you??

Anyway if you use the full version of Outlook or Outlook Express. Just be careful about attachments that you open.  If you don't know who they are from and the message seems strange just delete it. Not all virus threats come from email. You can bring one home unknowingly on a floppy disk. There are atrtacks on computers that have high-speed acces without some kind of firewall security, be it hardware or software.

I tell customers all the time..you can pay me know or pay ne later. IF you wait until later you'll be sorry you didn't do it now...

Hope that eases the pain and educates/informs some of you
