...where is best to stay.  I'll be playing tourist rather than working and I'm not really a party girl -- the main reason for heading to Detroit is so that I can see the Tiger/Dodger series in July.  If anyone can please let me know if I should stay near the ballpark?  If so what hotel?

[email protected] or send a personal message here :)  thank you

When I stay downtown I prefer either the Westin Book-Cadillac or Atheneum Suite Hotel. They are both within walking distance. Atheneum may be a little closer to the park and other entertainment options (Greektown casino, Detroit athletic club, etc). I like the restaurants at the Westin (Roast and 24 Grille) and it's closer to MGM Grand. Hope this helps a little.

The casino hotels are great because you'll have lots to do. But the Marriott or Courtyard on Jefferson are nice.
All of them are safe for the most part. Just don't use the motels.

What is meant by don't use the motels, to much traffic?  Or, just unsafe?

The motels downtown usually are occupied by druggies, working girls, or homeless

I appreciate your input, truly.  Between you and I, I'm a hotel snob, there's no way in heck you'd catch me at a motel unless a tornado took my home and I had no choice.  Even then I might opt :) lol

Hahahaha, you're welcome. MGM is really fun if you plan to party. Or Greektown.

online....
I've always been partial to Marriott's old Courtyard hotels (they're little studios I love them soooooo much, even tho needin a touch of updating)- theyve been my favorite & their new ones aren't as cool as the older ones, but they've sold them & I'm finding if ya schedule them online, no matter how good they look- they definetaly are nothing like the Courtyards, well the insides still are, but on some I'm finding they dnt have the amenities like back in the old days (which isn't so much a bother), but the other residents arent the same..... Which I think it has to do with marketting, I really don't see why they weren't able to keep these hotel rooms full. Before I got into the biz if we needed a hotel other than for sleep while on the road, then it was always Mariott Courtyard! But now I think I need to do a little more search & possibly stop tryin to save a couple of buxs on priceline....
I think I'm going to get ready to head home in the morning, Michigan isn't as fun as I thought it would be.....
